3 players score 95% of points

You would have won a lot of bets on naming the 3 guys.

We have to get many more points inside. Lon's offense is too easy to shut down.

Just about every fan base in the country says the same thing.

Basketball has changed. It's an outside shooters game now.

Our lowest point total of the season was 65 points, and that was in a 17-point victory.

We've scored in the 70s just four times, in the 80s eight times, in the 90s twice and we've topped 100 twice.

That's 13 games of 80 or more points and just five games in which we've scored fewer than 80 points.

If it's so easy to shut our offense down, why isn't anyone doing it?

OU missed a bunch of shots in the paint. Several are shots that fall at exceptionally high percentages such as Spangler's reverse lay up. It was just one of those games with respect to the points in the paint. Almost nothing would fall and even when it didn't fall weird things would happen to prevent OU from getting a put back. For example, on one play Hield gets a fast break, gets to the rim and OU has two guys in position to rebound (plus Hield). The ball spun in the cylinder until ISU was in position to rebound. Normally Hield make stye shot, perhaps 80% or more. Then when it is missed it comes out faster and OU gets the rebound maybe 70% of the time. Last night the low probability thing happened twice in a row.

Put another way, OU is currently the #6 scoring offense out of about 350 D1 basketball teams scoring 85.7 points per game. Lon's offense is not easy to shut down.

Well three of the 5 under 80 our are last three, so maybe people are figuring it out.

And Kansas held us under 80 in regulation. took 3 OT's to get to 100.

So 4 out of our 6 conference games we have been held under 80 in regulation

And that is against one of the tougher schedules in college basketball. In college sports it is very important to remember all schedules are not created equally.

Here are our point totals (in regulation) for each of our six conference games.

ISU: 87
KU: 77
KSU: 86
OSU: 74
WVU: 70
ISU: 77

That averages out to 79 points per game. Remembering that we play in the top-ranked conference in the country and that four of our six games have been against the best teams in that conference, can anyone really claim it is easy to shut our offense down?

Quite literally hundreds of other basketball teams would like to have our scoring "troubles."

It's foolish to say that our offense is easy to shut down. It's just not in keeping with reality.

It is true to say that we need to do a better job of getting points inside. It doesn't much matter if it's with our bigs or from our guards driving to the hoop, we've got to score more inside. Getting the ball inside more either way will also help us get more points at the free throw line. This is how we beat West Virginia and it, along with rebounding, were our major weaknesses last night.

Nailed it.
