What are the chances? It's an interesting scenario because IF that happens, OU would obviously be playing with lots of confidence and COULD beat A&M at home. That would put their mark at 10-5 which would be nice to say the least. Color me optimistic. :D

So much hinges on the Cincinnati game. A win, or a very competitive game there and I'll believe we can beat a slightly above average A&M team @LNC. Otherwise, no way.

We'll find out if we have actually turned a corner Saturday night.

By the way, Cincy's schedule thus far is atrocious. Their 9-0 record means next to nothing. I feel confident in saying we would be 9-0 with that mockery of a schedule.

You are correct, we are going to know a whole lot more about this team after the Cincy game. If we go out and get rolled then we really need to brace ourselves for a truly horrendous season. If we win or are very competitive in losing then things could be looking up.

Put me down as having my hopes up. I actually think we could lose to Cincy then win the next 4. I think we are just so much better at the LNC. I know Pledger and Cameron Clark's numbers are double what they are on the road.

Cincy's big men will make it tough for us on Saturday, but I have my hopes up that we will win the Big 12 opener. I know I'll be there.

Where a Colorado T-Shirt and a Nebraska hat so we can pick you out.

Ive got a CU polo that I can wear... dont have any Nebraska stuff though. Surely you can pick me out with my black CU polo on?

I never understand posts like this one.

We could lay an egg against Cincy, and it needn't necessarily mean squat about the rest of the season. A bad outing is a bad outing, but doesn't necessarily impact the team's performance the rest of the way.

What would be more accurate to say would be, "If we go out and get rolled by Cincy, then many of our fans will jump to the conclusion that we are in for a truly horrendous season. Likewise, if we win or are very competitive, many of those same fans will feel much better about our prospects."

But one early game doesn't make or break a season. It just doesn't. The team's fate won't be written in stone one way or the other, no matter what happens against Cincy.

Only the collective attitude of the fans will be directly impacted.

To me the Cincinnati game represents another game against a level of competition that is a step up from the Gardner Webbs and Oral Roberts of the world. Prior to now I would say this team has not fared that well against teams at that higher level of competition, with the potential exception being the Kentucky game. The general consensus on the board is that this team has improved somewhat signficantly since Maui, so to me the Cincinnati game is going to tell us a lot about whether or not that is true. If we do in fact get beaten soundly by Cincinnati I suppose you could simply chalk it up to an "off night", but to me it would point to whether or not the team has actually improved enough to compete at a higher level. While it would not mean we should simply forfeit the rest of our games, it would be of concern to me leading into conference competition.

I agree with Senior, if the team has made progress from the road trip woes then it will be shown vs Cincy. OU needs to compete with and or beat Cincy in order to make me believe we can win 4 or more games in conference. If OU gets blown by Cincy (a team that I believe is expected to be in the lower half of the Big East) this conference season is going to be rough.

All one game signifies is where you are that night. Play well (or badly) in three or four games in a row against teams of a similar level of talent, and you've got a trend.

But a single game still says little about where we'll be next week or next month or next March.

I'm not saying I'm not interested in seeing how it goes against the Bearcats -- I certainly am, and I'll feel great if we win and not so great if we lose -- but just look at the Kentucky game. We all thought our performance in that game boded very well for the status of the team at that point in time, but it did nothing of the kind.

It just doesn't work that way.
