because once Joe C. conducts the interview TE's name will be taken off the list.

'nuff said

Well you have said that but I was looking for a bit more detail. You seem to be quite negative about the guy.

Cool is all over the place...

Now he wants some 30 year old guy named Shaka.

I don't think he wants Shaka...I think that is the type of hire he expects Joe to make.

Basically, he has no confidence that Joe can hire who we need and will settle again for an unproven mid-major coach who has no ties to this part of the country.

At least, that is how I interpret his posts.

Well, I used to train with Terry and he is a straight shooter "good guy." He wants his kids to graduate, but he also knows it takes hardwork and knows how to win. Extremely likeable and has a lot of connections recruiting wise with Oklahoma and Texas.

Yes he doesn't have the D1 experience, but outside of Buzz/Pastner everyone else is a drop-off IMO. Why not take a shot on someone who sees this as his dream job. Also will be a light hire to the paycheck.

And being close to the situation with Mr. Evans that is all I will say for now. If I am given the okay to give my information, I'll let you all know.

I just can't get over the lack of D1 experience, he was a all time sooner great but now isn't his time. He needs to move on to a small D1 HC job, if he can replicate his success there then the next time the job opens he should be on the list. not now. its just irresponisble

Successfully vetting candidates is not as simple as just seeing who has been successful at a major program then saying how much do you want to be my coach. The evaluation process has to be much deeper than that - and all of the best candidates won't be immediately obvious to the fanbase and blog fanatics.

It boils down to who can come into the OU situation with our resources and recruit the Texas area successfully; over the last several years we have had so many kids from Oklahoma who were very talented and went elsewhere. We couldn't even get a sniff.

Largely on recruiting boards the most lusted after candidates are the obvious and usual suspects. Every coach you hire represents a risk to some degree.

Terry Evans wins b/c his teams are more athletic than just about everybody they go up against.

Can he recruit that type of talent to OU? I have my doubts. Jeff Capel thought he could land tier 1 talent, and that blew up in his face.

I want a frickin' coach that can win will lesser talent. Then, when that coach has great talent, it'll be that much better.

I didnt realize how many people on this board watch UCO basketball, very impressive. I mean these guys are breaking down the talent level across the D-II landscape.

I don't think Terry Evans will get the job..mainly because this is such a critical hire for Joe. But...I have no doubt that he would do a good job given the opportunity. He has recruiting connections in Oklahoma and Texass...he would just be recruiting the higher caliber players on these AAU teams instead of the 6th or 7th guys on the team. Dealing with the same coaches though. Terry is very bright, articulate and a good communicator (I have been to several speaking engagements where he has spoken). That all translates into a solid recruiter. Terry wants to be at Oklahoma. More than anyone else who would be offered the job. That is a given..and I know he would put his heart and soul into the program. This is his "Dream Job". He wouldn't be looking to go anywhere else. He's young, energetic and can relate to the kids these days...much like Capel was supposed to be able to do.

And last, he already has mentioned what his identity would be for the program..which is a refreshing thought. Up-tempo, high intensity defense and a focus on rebounding. Nice combination of assets that compliment each other very well.

Like I said, I don't think he'll get the job..but we could do much much worse!! It's easy to dog this option due to Evans being at a small school...but that factor is waaayyy overrated IMO. All the man needs is an opportunity. I hope he gets just that.

If I remember right, coach Iba said the best coaches are DII coaches because they less to work with in the first place! Terry wants the head job, give him a shot! I would rather have someone who wants to be here than someone who is just trying to get a higher caliber job!! I think Buzz would be good, but I don't think we can get him here!! I am all for Terry!!!

I've been pretty solid on Terry Evans for a while now, and I agree, he probably won't get the job but I absolutely would like to think that he would get an interview. Moreover, to the extent that "inexperience" at the D-1 level is the issue, then I am hopeful that Joe C. says exactly that, and then asks Terry if the next HC came calling, would he be interested in being an assistant.

Buzz Williams is to me the perfect candidate, and if we can get him we need to...and maybe there is a spot on the staff for Terry if he would take it. I'm definitely wishful thinking, but after reading Terry's statements and knowing his love for the program, I really want him back coaching in Norman, Oklahoma in some capacity.

Bruce Pearl won a DII title at Southern Indiana...so stick that in y'alls pipe and smoke it.

I think Terry Evans would be a Sherri Coale type hire. (In a good way). I don't think anyone else has the passion for OU that TE does and I think it would show on the court. Coolm, Bruce Pearl is NOT going to be the next OU coach, give it a rest. TE might not be either, but he's got more of a shot than Pearl. IMHO.

Bruce Pearl? Really? A liar and illegal recruiter who rats out guys on his own staff? No thanks, I will take a class act any day over him.

He turned in Illinois for giving a car to a recruit.

Let me repeat: he turned in Illinois for giving a car to a recruit.

You're seriously gonna use THAT against him? This isn't the mafia or the old west. People get turned in for doing bad things. Don't like it, don't do bad things.
