My guess is that enough voters were put off by his ridiculous "tenure" in San Francisco in a naked grab for 800 wins...or maybe the wreck and the end of the line at osu...or the Emery envelope...or.....

I'll take the Emery envelope for $1,000 Alex.

I think the voters would have forgot the Kentucky stuff. The things that happened at end of his OSU career just made it impossible to forget.

Ags love to brag about their vast number of national championships, and here, it likely worked against one of their own.

The two coaches that were inducted had a national championship. Eddie doesn't.

Also notable (although not really with respect to his HOF credentials) that most of his wins came at schools other than OSU, and his winning percentage was lower at OSU than for his career.

You guys can hate on him all you want, but he deserves to be in there.

And no, I got no love for OSU but let's get real here.

The only stop where he had a higher winning percentage than OSU was Arkansas.

He had more wins at OSU than any other stop, and he had (slightly) more NCAA tournament success at OSU.

And I would argue that the competition that he faced on a year-in, year-out basis in the Big 8 and then Big 12 at OSU was greater than the SWC in the 1970s/1980s.

OSU: 368-151 (.709) - 3 Sweet Sixteens, 1 Elite Eight, 2 Final Fours

Kentucky: 88-39 (.692) - 1 Sweet Sixteen, 1 Elite Eight

Arkansas: 260-75 (.776) - 2 Sweet Sixteens, 1 Elite Eight, 1 Final Four

Creighton: 82-50 (.621)

He's in the college HOF. With all the baggage he carries around, I doubt he gets in alive.

I know I'm in the minority, but I'm with Ham. The reason he's not in the HOF yet is because of what happened at Kentucky. His W-L record and NCAA Tournament results speak for themselves. I remember when he was hired at OSU in 1990. My first thought was, "our dominance over OSU is over"...and it was. Eddie got the better of Billy before he left for TCU, and Eddie vs. Kelvin was pretty much a wash.

From '82-'90, we played 19 times and got to yell "Boomer Sooner!" after 16 of them. 16 out of 19 is quite a run and neither team has come close to doing that to the other since.

I hate everything orange and always will, however Eddie Sutton deserves to be in the HOF. His numbers speak for themselves, plain and simple. I hope he makes it in and lives to rejoice in the moment.

I'm not an OSU fan either but I think Eddie Sutton was one of the best defensive coaches I've watched during my lifetime. Not that his teams couldn't play some offense too, but his defenses would really get in your shorts and stay there. I say let him in, he deserves it.

This one is tough for me. For one the things he did a Kentucky were really bad. They resulted in a two year post season ban, and the NCAA considered the Death Penalty. Then the DUI and the urinating on a Middle School in 2006 were really bad.

But He does have 888 Wins with 3 final Fours, 3 More Elite Eights, and another 8 Sweet Sixteens. That is a hall of fame resume.

It comes down to does the Good outweigh the bad Because the good is really good, and the bad is really bad

As much as it pains me to say it about an OSU coach, Eddie does belong in the Hall of Fame. 808 wins but I would put an asterisk by it since he was credit with several wins when he was suspended at OSU and he got several wins at San Francisco as an interim coach. The bottom line he put OSU on the map again in basketball.

Not a Poke fan but Sutton should be in...period.

He's made mistakes but he is a great basketball coach and deserves to be in.

What do those worthless sheep molesters think about being left out of both the early Top 25 polls?
