Akol Mawein Commits to OU

Hill will never play on the perimeter... he's a tweener.

Glad OU got Mawein... He played on a juco team with 3-4 D1 players so the scoring was all spread out... The 5 rebounds per game worries me. We will see. I was higher on a few others, but this is a good commit either way.

Who? 4 names please

CoachTalk challenged ABD to name four juco players better than Mawein.

One or two will suit me just fine. And, if there is a juco big out there as good as Mawein, I would like to see his highlight video. This kid is not one of the project bigs we have grown accustomed to in the past two to three years. IMO, he’s a basketball player with the size and skill set to compete at the next level someday.

So, who did Moser miss out on to sign Mawein, ABD?

Not to say he's a slam dunk starter for us, but I think Mawein may have more quality game film than all of Kruger's project bigs combined. I also am hopeful that we now have a coach better suited to develop bigs.

Hammer meet nail.

I didn’t say 4 better. I just want to know which ones he would’ve choose. For future reference

I like this guy on film. We’ll see how he does. I have no clue.

If you look above I also asked the same thing that hasn’t been answered.

He said there were three or four other guys he would have preferred which we know one of them was the three-point shooter but in my opinion the way it looks is Moser is trying to make sure that he has enough post depth especially defensively but also be able to score from the post over having just another shooter. Obviously they most likely are trying to get another shooter as well but that Didn’t seem to be the top priority.

I didn’t ask for four, I asked for one or two. I specifically added that I would be interested in the video of a better big than Mawein. I’ll concede the three point shooter you referenced might have been a better choice, but I really do want to know more about the others. I don’t follow juco recruiting much anymore. Still waiting on a response to my question as well.

Also this staff is in on all players so late. Getting the 4th best is a steal. Also helps we hired an asst coach that was clearly linked. But his credibility as an asst coach is up to par.

Mawein said he followed Coach Patrick to OU. He also had some nice things to say about Coach Moser.

Mawein told 247 Sports that he chose OU because of his ties to new Sooners assistant David Patrick, Moser’s most recent hire from Arkansas.

“Basically wherever he is going I am going there with him,”

I think there is confusion to what we are talking about :) I was responding to CoachTalk about asking Abd about his comments. I asked above in reference to Abd saying there were 3-4 guys that he would have preferred over Mawein. My comment was that Mawein was/is ranked the #1 juco PF by sites out there and given the guy (Abd) loves jucos, you would have thought that he would have been head over heels for the pickup. Instead, he down plays it saying it was a “good” pick-up but that there were 3-4 others he had his eyes on first so I asked who those were :) Nothing aimed at you at all :ez-laugh:

No, no, no. I understood where you were coming from. We’re on the same page, we were just approaching the same basic question from a slightly different angle.

ABD has been so determined to sell everyone on the value of juco players the past few years, I felt sure he would be excited about arguably the best juco big we have signed in a very long time. I was surprised when his response was lukewarm, at best.

That’s why I genuinely wanted to know who he would have recruited? I could see why the three point shooter you referenced might be a better fit. But if there’s a better big out there, I would like to see his recruiting profile and a video.

I see and we agree for the most part. His reaction was odd :ez-laugh: i Dont think either one could be argued against. A scoring power forward with good height and athleticism is always a take for me and gives Moser options with lineup rotations. They still need that perimeter scoring threat as well so maybe abd will be pleasantly surprised

As far as JUCO PF’s are concerned the only ones in the conversation are likely KU signee Sydney Curry, Tech signee KJ Allen, and UW signee Langston Wilson.
7’2” Sharpe (WKU) and 7’3” McLeod (FSU) are both Centers ....

Curry's a Center too. 6'8", 260. Lots of back to the basket post moves. Not a PF.
