All is well, OU can hang with CU and Tech...

That's OU's new benchmark compared to Big XII Championships, splitting a series with UT and KU?

This reminds me of the John Blake days, which lasted too long for me.

I just hope this gets turned around by 2012, or OU BB with its little tradition will be the KSU football of the Big XII.

I do believe you are arguing with a strawman. Certainly no one has suggested that hanging with (beating) CU and Tech is the long-term benchmark for success at Oklahoma.

You should be banned for a statement like this. Not for being negative, but for being uneducated.

The OU program is DEFINITELY a top 20 program of all time and quite possibly a top 10-15 program over the last 30 years.

This,
And that pisses me off to no end when dumbasses say we aren't good at basketball traditionally

Ya know, it really annoys me when good fans are belittled for matching their expectations to a team's capabilities. Beating CU and Tech was good for this team. No one has said, or will say that it was good for the overall tradition and prestige of the progam.

Very few people on this site have been saying "all is well". HOwever, are we not allowed to be pleased with a couple of wins? Some of you act like we should all sit around and b!tch and moan all season regardless of if we win or lose. I also don't understand why all of a sudden "it's just Colorado". This is the same Colorado team that beat Kansas State, Missouri and Oklahoma State, but now that we beat them "they aren't any good anyway". That's a crock. Is Colorado a top 25 team? No. Are they a solid team and a nice win for OU to have? Absolutely. Good lord I'm just tired of all the freaking complaining. Be happy about something for once, for Christ's sake.

Before the year started almost everyone on this site stated they understood this would be a down year and were willing to give Capel a pass, with the expectation that he field a good and competitive team next year. It wasn't that anyone was happy we were going to be down, but just a reflection of the state of the team.

For those of you who now are calling for Jeff's head because of how this team has performed, I ask: What did you think losing and mediocre would look like?

I blame Jeff for a current situation. It isn't that I don't. It is just that I am willing to let him learn from his errors and given a short leash to rebuild a respectable program. This is my position because I think he is a good person and can be a really good coach given time and experiance.

Personnally, this team has performed about like I thought they would. Generally, they are playing hard and trying. For me, we will pretty much know our future after the early signing date next november.

CU is a good team, they're going to the NIT and probably on the cusp for a NCAA birth. We didn't get their best shot, Burks struggled mightily and their entire offense seemed out of sync. Factor in the early start time for a team going East and I'm sure if there was a return trip the outcome might be different.

Huh? Early start time? An hour earlier is too much for them? Going east? Where is Colorado these days? I'm so confused. Agree it is east but you make it sound like they went to New York or something. This team sucks yes. They play hard and give it their all. Let us celebrate a couple of wins. My gosh! Put down your agenda of getting rid of Jeff (which none of you have the stroke to do anyway) and be happy for the team.

Had OU not hung with Colorado, CU would be tied for second in the conference and have one of the best wins in the conference (beating Missouri) other than Texas (beating KU and A&M).

Things are still bad but it is a positive. I most certainly did not start this with the notion that Capel is great, should get a raise or anything like that. I started the discussion with simpling wondering if he saved his job. In other words he is still on the chopping block.

1.) It's easy for a team to come out flat in a quiet gym ahead of your time zone. Speaking from experience here.

2.) CU travels east to get to Oklahoma.

3.) Agenda? Pretty sure I've already stated that I have no problem with Capel being back next year. Was just analyzing how awful CU played (namely Burks and Higgins). Have watched about 7-8 CU games this year, if you honestly think that was on of their better games, you have no idea what you're talking about.

4.) It was a good win for OU, not denying that at all.

Really? You blame him when just recently we had a big debate about whether Missouri was a better job and a substantial number of OU fans said yes. How would he (and most OU fans) know about our tradition in basketball when we don't remotely agree on it as a fan base? Just last week we had a debate about Missouri being a better job and we have had countless debates about he merits of OKlahoma Mistake University being a better basketball school. (Thank you to Big Time for consistently putting down that form of defamation.)

Oh, I know. I read that too. It amazes me that our fan base is so ignorant about our program. In the 80s, OU was arguably a top 5 program.

Please understand, I didn't mean to insult you as much as our fan base in general. We suck!

I know all about OU's rich history, but personally, it doesn't mean anything to me. Present or recent history are the only accolades I pay attention to. Winning titles and making Final Fours 30-40 years ago doesn't resonate with most players and recruits. It's a cool tidbit which fans love to discuss, but it is all about what have you done for me lately.

They made a FF less than 10 yrs ago.

Quick...make a list of all teams that made a FF and 2 E8s in the past 10 years.

off the top of my head it will include, OU, Duke, UNC, Kansas, UCLA. Thats pretty good company and im sure there are a couple of others. Thats why i feel going to the tourney is like going to bowl games for the football team. It should be the standard.
