Another Transfer

Does this open up any playing time for Manek at all? I know they would prefer to redshirt and improve his bulk. Say James continues his slump and Manek's all-around game turns out to be better than Freeman's - then doesn't Manek make it into a nine-man rotation (assuming we get the Rice guy)?

But I'm guessing Buford's departure means LK has a track on a transfer forward. That would redshirt Manek for sure.

Manek is redshirting? I assumed Buford leaving was partly due to having Manek join Doolittle and Freeman as 4's.
I'm sure Manek needs bulk but he's a top 150 recruit. I think he'll play

manek has no plans to redshirt

I'm sure the coaches would echo your thoughts.

Manek may be a tad on the skinny side, but that kid can play. He's an impressive athlete with a sweet stroke from the perimeter. Assuming he can defend a little, I think he has the potential to earn a spot in the rotation somewhere by the start of conference play. If I was in Freeman's shoes, I would be working my tail off this summer.

Neither would've had a significant role next season. This allows to add 1-2 players who could. Best for both sides.

Hate losing Buford. Remember last season in Lawrence (Buddy's big game) seemed like Buford was only other one who could hang athletically.

I'll admit I found Buford's on-court performance disappointing to date, but I'm sorry to see him leaving. It always feels to me a bit like a collective failure when a player transfers, though I know that's often not the case.

Disagree. When the whole team was tentative during the the dark days last year Dante seemed like the one player who had no problem stepping into the shot. In today's game, I don't think you can have too many guys who can grab a board or two and step out from distance.

Oh well. Too late now. I'm very disappointed.

I don't think we should discount Polla as the "bulk" inside. I just have had a feeling he will be more impactful than we might expect in his freshman year. Just sayin.

I had asked for information on this board and the OUI board about Polla and received good info. After Hale posting his interview with Polla, I still feel that way.

makes me feel bad for Buford that he's that down about his future role. But you recruit kids who are hyper competitive and then you ask them to be patient. They wanna play. I can understand that.

Ya know, I'd do the same thing. They are basketball players, they don't want to watch other people play basketball, nor should they. I don't think it's a negative thing at all for the player.

I never really understood being a bench/role player if you have the ability to be more than that somewhere else. Not going to bust my ass in practice and in the gym all year to ride the pine.. At that point I am basically a practice cone with arms. Not for me.

I am positive that Dante Buford could go to any solid mid-major school like Colorado State, Hawaii, Tulsa, Houston, UCF, and countless other schools and start or have a very big impact and a nice career. That's what he should be going after.

Good luck to him.

I'm sure he has ability to defend, but not for sure since Harrah never did.
