All signs are pointing to Anderson to Arkansas going down sometime today.

Mizzou reportedly offered five years at $2 million/per, and we refused to engage in a bidding war with Sexton. Arkansas apparently went to $2.2/7.

It's not about the money, though. Anderson turned more down in each of the previous two years. This is about him going to Arkansas.

Not really sure how I feel about this. For the most part I just feel like he was using Mizzou the whole time (but at the same time he's leaving our program in much better shape than he found it). I definitely will not be rooting for him at all in Arkansas.

It'll lessen the sting considerably if Mizzou can bring in a quality replacement. I have no clue as to the veracity of it, but I've seen a few people post they've heard Matt Painter may be interested (I have no idea why... he's a Purdue alumnus and is doing well there... but if that happens... Mike who?).

This reminds me of conference realingment last year.

What is your prediction for 2012 that I can bet on the oppostie of happening ;)?

On a serious note, who do you think Mizzou will go after beside Pastner? Capel?

This is:

A.) Terrible news for Mizzou
and
B.) A dumb move for Anderson

well mizzou is a better job than OU so are we any better off with Ark being off the table than we are with Mizzou on the table?

Don't think it is a dumb move for Anderson, he gets paid more and if he really, truly enjoys Fayetteville over Columbia (I would) than good for him.

That's an interesting opinion, though one few people outside the state of Missouri would share.

Something I've always wondered about OU basketball: I'm sure a lot of coaches have pretty large egos, especially the ones that make 7 figures, how appealing is it for them to always be second fiddle to OU football? And how much does that hurt when filling that job?

I haven't read a whole lot about this in particular, but I suspect his wife had a lot to do with the move. I've heard she wasn't all that fond of Columbia (possibly something to do with the lack of a large middle-upper class black community... which in a lot of ways is true; I don't know that Fayetteville is any different, though). I know their daughter had expressed some pretty elitist views of her peers while she was still in high school.

As for other names, I have no idea. Pastner may be an option, or may be considered too Quin-like to be an option. I don't think Buzz will be on the list. I really don't even know who Alden will be looking at. Last time around he wanted Dixon first and Anderson second. His search committee (which he thankfully ignored completely) was high on Huggins. I don't think he's going to start with mid-majors. He'll look at an established coach first, then move down if he has to.

With Mizzou in much better shape than we were when Anderson was hired, I'm confident we'll get someone good. There are a lot of openings, but Mizzou is arguably the program in best shape out of all of them, so should have plenty of options. And if we're willing to go as high for a new guy as we apparently were for Anderson, we'll have $2 million to offer. A lot of schools won't be willing to match that.

Overall, you're right. The two programs are historically very similar, but OU has a couple final fours MU can't match.

But right now, there's no question who's in better shape.

Wow. How many extended family members is Mike leaving behind in Columbia?

Cuonzo Martin would be a guy to watch for this job IMO.

I'm sorry but isn't that exactly the situation you guys are trying to recreate in Stillwater?

Sure it is. But that's not an answer to my question.

Guess you didn't read Sampson's interview recently in that he said it was a 'big help' for the basketball program. Doesn't seem to be affecting Texas, Florida, Ohio State, etc.

Kelvin Sampson has answered that convincingly in an article above.http://ouhoops.com/?p=5675

I am mystified by all of these OU fans who think every other school out there is a better job than OU.

There is a certain type of coach that will never come to OU (or Florida or Texas, etc.). But there are other coaches that realize that an elite football program can be used as a recruiting tool and provides resources that some basketball first schools could never dream of.
