Apparently I was wrong

There is a certain type of coach that will never come to OU (or Florida or Texas, etc.). But there are other coaches that realize that an elite football program can be used as a recruiting tool and provides resources that some basketball first schools could never dream of.

Congrats bok, you win this thread.

Sawyer, are you really that concerned about replacing Anderson? Everyone thought he would be a second-coming of Nolan when he went to Mizzou. I thought they were right after your Elite Eight/3rd in conference finish in his third season. But that was by far his best season since he landed in Columbia five years ago. Since that time the best he could do was a 5th place finish in conference and back to back 23-11 seasons.

Don't get me wrong, OU fans would gladly take those records the past two years. Still, nothing Mike has done at MIzzou, aside from your 31-7 in the 2008-2009 season, leads me to believe that he is practically irreplacable as a coach. Mizzou will be fine.

I'm not really even sure. This past year was a bit of a disappointment, but you cannot understate how good the elite eight team was. Anderson took a group of complete castoffs and afterthoughts and put together one of the best years in Mizzou history. And with the recruits we were legitimately in on for 2012, I really believe we were about to add some major talent that Anderson hadn't yet had a chance to coach here. I see your point, and plenty of Mizzou fans feel that way. I just don't really know right now.

What I do know is it's important we find someone who can start fast. Mizzou has three open scholarships for 2011 and six for 2012. The new coach will have to bring a lot of prior contacts that net him a lot of Big 12 level recruits early. If not, he may be doomed before he ever gets going.

Exactly. As other posters have said, KS elaborated on your statement in an interview not too long ago.

My mom is good family friends with former K-State coach Jim Wooldridge, and he would always say that having K-State thrive as a football school was one of the biggest recruiting tools for him.

If you know how to use it correctly, it can be an advantage.

This is looking very interesting. I wonder if Anderson sought Nolan's opinion on the matter... I remember reading an article where Nolan voiced his displeasure at the racism that took place against him towards the end of his tenure at Arkansas.

Obviously this isn't much of a concern for Anderson should he leave, but I wonder what Nolan thinks of this move his protege is rumored to make nonetheless.

Andy Katz had an article published this morning that said Nolan and Mike are together today for a funeral in either Tulsa or Arkansas. Nolan mentioned the admin at Arkansas had changed from when he was there (Broyles is no longer AD), so from Nolan's quotes it sounded like it would be easier for Mike at UA than it was for Nolan.

Thanks for the input. Hopefully the admin has changed for the better.

I wish Katz asked him about the fans and whether or not they had changed. To my understanding, it was partially the fans' racism that drove Nolan to the point of frustration.

I'm sure further articles will be published explaining Nolan's feelings on the matter... Will be interested to see what he says.

That and the fact that one of them shot his horse.

Any person who willingly associates themselves with the University of Arkansas' athletic program automatically becomes dead to me.

Anderson and Richardson speak daily. He absolutely advised Anderson on this.

Appears that Nolan has released his grudges on the university then.

yeah, a lot of it has apparently passed on. I still know many Ark fans who admire Nolan and didn't appreciate much of the redneck stuff that went on.

Arkansas is a solid program with all the elements you'd want as a coach if they've matured beyond that past stuff.

Totally agree. Especially when you consider they are in the putrid SEC West division, Arkansas is the perfect place to thrive.

So will Melvin get a shot at the HC position or is he going with MA?

Mike Anderson is gone, just told his players that he is leaving for Arky.

Melvin's likely headed to Arkansas with Anderson. He will not be considered for Mizzou's spot.

Earlier I had Cuonzo Martin down my list a bit, but I'm beginning to think he may be the guy.

Cuonzo Martin could very well make a good coach at Mizzou:

- young
- good coaching tree from Purdue
- very emo and energetic
- guard-oriented

Mizzou could certainly do a lot worse

An added benefit with Martin is he's from East St. Louis. Missouri isn't technically home, but it's damn close. He has tons of ties in areas Missouri recruits (or should be recruiting), and might be able to salvage Otto Porter to Mizzou (signed one of his cousins a year or two earlier, recruited Otto, as well).
