Rob put up 6.1 ppg, 4.6 rbg, and 1.1 bpg in 24.1 mpg at Marshall this season while starting 33 of 35 games for the Thundering Herd.

Casey put up 1.2, 1.8 and 0.1 in 6 min per contest at OU.

It may be a wash but I always thought that Goff had some potential if he had a coaching staff that could motivate him...

The final chapter probably isn't written on either on of them. But, to this point, Goff has always been the better player. It was probably other issues that got Kruger off him.

That has always been my understanding as well. I also figured that Rob wanted to go play for Coach Cline who led his recruitment.

At the end of the day it didn't really matter. Minimal impact one way or the other. M'Baye dwarfs what either of them would have brought next season.

Would be nice to have a decent 4th post for some depth. The Arent we saw last year won't get it done.

Agreed Goff would have been more effective. Just not sure it would make anything more than a negligible difference.

I like Arent just a lil more...he may have not been that effective this season..and he may or may not be helpful next season...but he gives us more of what we need and thats a true center. If we had to take a chance on one..it might as well have been Arent.

I agree 100%. For some reason I think Arent will turn it on this year.

I don't know if the term "turn it on" applies to Arent, but I do believe it's a little too early to write him off completely. He's not totally void of skills. If he works hard this summer to improve his rebounding, blocking shots and finishing inside, he could help the team. He has to get better in those areas to contribute this fall.

I've got a simular take. When he 1st came in, Fitz,CJ, and Honere just mugged him every day. They were just banging and shoving him off every shot and rebound. And literaly knocking him off his feet.

Now, I'm not saying that is bad. But, I doubt Casey had much of that in the Cal. Juco leage. He was the biggest guy and toughest guy. I don't think that he had the stregth to deal with it at that point and was rattled to some degree. My observations were that Casey is a tough kid and didn't give an inch. He was just not matching up well in the stength and banging challenge he was getting.

He gets up and down the court well. He has good feet and first step quickness for a big. And a decent looking shot. But, he did lose confidence and needed more developement. A year has gone by and he will be better for it. His ceiling probably isn't as high as I had hoped. But, I'm confident that he will be just fine in the roll he plays.

Agreed.

I think Aren't was the safest option because he had taken care of business in the classroom, whereas Goff was not as trustworthy in this regard. What good is any player if you can't trust them to handle their business off the court?

I'm sure Marshall was the best option for Goff because their academic programs are probably easier than OU.

Arent had to take summer school last year to make it in late to OU. He was way behind after blowing off school his first year if I remember the articles correctly.

He couldn't have been that far behind if he was able to leave JUCO a year early.

A year early? He graduated high school in 2008 which means he needed summer school after 3 years to finish a 2 year community college program.

No biggie either way on him or Goff but the facts are what they are.

I have no idea if Goff would have put up better numbers than Casey last year? I do know that I was not the least bit impressed by what I saw of RG in the two games I watched his juco team play. I even asked back then what the heck Capel saw to make him think Goff would be the next Taj Gray? He never lived up to the pre-season AA hype at any point of his sophomore season at Hutch.

Even if Arent does not improve next season, I think our coaches made the right choice for the reasons you gave.

He actually graduated from HS in 2009.

2008 is the right answer. Casey had a greyshirt year after leaving HS and then played 2 yrs.
