attendance at KSU game?

Soonersports estimated 6,500. I would have guessed around 7,000.

Not bad. If we can get 6500 to 7500 at all remaining games, that would get good for this season. I would expect better next year. Just remember for all that complain about OU fans only supporting football etc, baseball team will expect your support in a few months. Especially with a newly reconstructed L Dale Mitchell park. See sooner sports.com for this years construction. Pretty cool. Moving the fans closer to the plate.

The 6,473 attendance shown on Soonersports.com is the actual number of tickets counted at the entrances. I have no idea why "estimated attendance" is used to show the actual head count? It's been that way for several years, though.

The number of tickets sold for Saturday's game was listed at 8,812. So, obviously there were a number of no-shows. Nothing unusual about that, though.

I attended the game and 6,500 was probably right. What irritates me is that the student section was totally empty. Our student support is pathetic. Joe C would be better off giving those tickets to high schools, the military, or AAU teams in the area.

School isn't in session until tomorrow. Hopefully, student attendance will pick up then.

The student section will definitely pick up. They missed a good one though.

I know that has an impact, but honestly, there ought to be enough students from the metropolitan area alone to pack the student section, especially when we're playing a conference opponent that's ranked in the Top 20. What's to keep a student who lives in Norman, OKC, Moore, etc. from attending the game?

You are much more optomistic than I am. We have heard every excuse in the book. Seat location failed. Price reduction failed. And the final excuse is winning, but watching the students not show up for football the last few years has me wondering if winning will solve anything.

Probably over half of the university is made up of Tulsans and Texans. Freshmen and Greek sophomores/juniors often can't get back until like the Thursday or Friday before the break ends. Can't really blame them for riding the free food out at home until Sunday or Monday. Not to mention the fact that the current sophomores and juniors have had little to no reason to acknowledge basketball. The Capel stink still needs time to wash off before you'll see good student crowds again.

I expect 800 students for the Baylor game, the problem is going to be getting the ones above the wall to stand up and cheer. If anyone has any tips on how I can convince them to do that I'd be glad to hear them.

They rarely show the student section, besides the ones on the floor, on TV. How many usually make it?

Do they ever have people go tell the students they can move to the floor?

Being that the white heads fill most seats in LNC, they can't handle standing for any period of time. It was probably all they could do just to navigate the stadium to their seats. Standing will only occur in games that come down to the last shot and just to please spiky head.

I'm excluding any games over winter break because most schools don't even have a student section for those games. Also these are all estimated.

Game - # (# on floor)
Idaho State - 250 (50)
Coppin State - 250 (25)
Sacramento State - 400 (50)
Oral Roberts - 300 (50)
Arkansas - 500 (100)

Thus far, I have not seen any official announcement telling students they can sit in the floor seats. I asked marketing to send out an email in early December to all the student season ticket holders, but (surprise surprise) they didn't. So basically it's just ksSooner13 telling students above the wall that they can move to the floor seats. FWIW, I'm doubtful that the floor seats right behind the basket will ever fill up, as a majority of the court is blocked by the basket.

Oh I have absolutely no expectations for any of the normal fans at the LNC. I'm talking about getting the students whose seats are behind the wall to stand up, which has not happened thus far this season.

According to Soonerstats we had 8,000 this year. Two years ago we had 12,000 vs KSU. Two years before that we had 12,000 for the Griffin vs Beasley game. That was one of the best games I've seen in Norman, even though we lost. Blake was big time, but Beasley was just further along at that point.
