Attendance today - factor?

% of your arena is probably a better gauge than aggregate attendance. I think we can all agree that Duke could add 10K seats or more and still easily fill it. And I’m also specifically targeting the student section. I think OU has to be one of the only power 5’s (and really one of a small few in all D1) where that section is routinely legitimately empty. I was at the UT game— 5 minutes before tip it was empty— I’m talking like 20 kids total in there.

Yeah, that's all valid. I know how to easily get my hands on NCAA attendance numbers, but making a spreadsheet to recalculate the numbers as a percentage of attendance is far beyond what I have the time to do. One thing I did take the time to look up -- Gallagher Iba has a capacity about 2000 higher than us. Yet we still beat them in attendance every single year.

Seems like student attendance problem is something the student senate at OU
should get involved in.
Perhaps our basketball staff should go greek houses, indy student housing and try to whip up some enthusiasm for basketball.
Promotions might help, free tee shirts etc.

It would be interesting to compare attendance to Alabama, USC, Georgia, LSU, Ohio State, Nebraska, Clemson, etc... Other football schools.

That being said, none of those have a top 25 all time hoops program.

They’ve done this. Students just don’t care unless you got a Buddy and are playing Texas.

You would think the students would use these type of sporting events to blow off steam and help to rid themselves of the stress associated with attending college.

There’s appears to be more people at the women’s gymnastics meet than at the game yesterday. Wow...

Record crowd of 10,171 for #1 OU vs. #2 UCLA women's gymnastics. OU had won two NCs, then had one taken from them last season in the final event by UCLA.

Except for OU hoops...

I could post statistics all day, but you seem uninterested in the facts. Our average attendance was pretty close to capacity during our Final 4 run. We've had top 50 attendance with losing records. Pretty impressive honestly.

Absolutely correct

Again, tickets sold are not butts in seats. Selling the tickets hasn’t been the problem. It’s getting people to actually show up that’s been the problem.

Those attendance figures are inaccurate and don’t represent fans that are at the game.

As I said earlier, that problem isn't unique to OU. You're fighting real data with unsubstantiated opinions. If you have any data supporting your claims, I'm all ears. I have no problem switching my stance, but I don't value anonymous unsubstantiated opinions in an internet forum over data published by the NCAA.

OU fans are simply not that great when it comes to attending games in person. OU fans overall are some of the most knowledgeable and nicest when it comes to football and hoops, but they don’t show up enough. And the students is another thing all together. This generation of kids are preoccupied with other things and they aren’t showing up all over the nation. Heck, Saban complained about the Bama students this year and them not showing up.
