Auri's Mom came into my branch yesterday and i got to have a really good long conversation with her about her son...
If you dont know who Auri Allen is, just google it...there is plenty of info on him...
At age 12 he was 6'8, 300lbs and bigger than Shaq at that age...is now 7'1, around 350...he played high school ball at Crenshaw High School in LA...was featured on Ripley's Believe it or not and got a chance to meet Shaq at a young age...
He and his family moved here to Oklahoma because his mother wanted him to go to school at OU and play basketball, from the info i have read and my conversation with her he is a very bright student (over 3.0 GPA) and his interest in OU comes from some family friends that graduated from there...
She said he has not yet met Coach Capel, but will be contacting him soon to let him know his intentions...
He is recovering from an injury sustained in a car accident and she said he has been in rehab working diligently on returning to the court...
I thought this was all interesting because of his size and how he has already had quite a lot of publicity early in his life but hasnt started college or found a university yet...he is 19...it may turn into nothing, i have spoken to a lot of parents and players in my day that had huge aspirations and opportunities but never seemed to materialize...
I hope he does in fact choose to attend OU and play there, looks to me like it might be a Walk-On type deal at first...his injury i think was pretty bad and probably a reason he has fallen from the spotlight...
If nothing else could be a nice conversation piece for the offseason...anyone know Capels email? Might shoot him a note reguarding this kid...
