Austin Grandstaff

Committed to Ohio St. today

yep, kind of surprising but they've been good lately. He'll have to step up his defense for sure to be more than a very good scoring 6th man. Thad Matta stresses that side of the ball too

I don't think he is going to like it up there. Seems like a family kid that would do better in this part of the country. Wish him well, but wouldn't surprise me to see him transferring in a couple of years.

He isn't going to like winter in Ohio.

I'm always amused when I see posts like this -- oh, the horrors of winter!

I grew up in Oklahoma, and I hate the heat. Autumn and spring are my favorite seasons, but I'll take winter over an Oklahoma (or, in AG's case, a Texas or even an NYC) summer any time.

I don't know AG -- he may love the summer. It's the presumption that he does (or that he hates winter) that leaves me scratching my head. Sometimes getting away from what you dealt with growing up is appealing to a young person.

Would not be shocked if he never stepped foot on tOSU's campus.

He needs to commit to Oregon State next to complete the OSU trifecta.

Problem is, he'll get the crappy Ohio Winter and come home for the 105 degree Texas summers. Worst of both worlds.

Agree.
Oklahoma summers are the worst. Hate it with a passion. Much rather be cold than hot. But I do love posts all the time saying that someone will hate a particular type of climate when they have never met that person.

While it's pure speculation that Grandstaff will not like the cold weather in Ohio, you can't rule out the possibility that he may hate it just as much as I do. That's exactly why we left Michigan several years ago. I'll take the heat any ol' day over the ice and snow.

I have said more than once that I will never be hungry enough to move back to a state with long, depressing winters! To each his own, I suppose.

I believe that's what I have already stated. To each his own. To many people make a big deal about winter when summer is just as bad or worse.

Many people might agree that a cold winter is better than oppressively hot summer but that does not change the fact that most people will also agree that the winter in the Midwest is not particularly appealing.

Maybe the kid didn't even think of climate, but liked the Ohio State program.

Yeah, the whole climate thing is funny. If it was that big of a deal, UCLA and Miami would be winning every title, and UCONN and Michigan State would be rocking 0-18 conference seasons.

Odd reason to choose a school but maybe. I'm betting he likes to ice fish...
