BBJ/Terry Evans exchange on the radio

I'm all for talking about Terry Evans as a possible OU coach...but please don't pollute this hoops board with olympic sports talk.

Whoa!!!! Please clarify. If you are saying Gasso and the gymnastics coaches are not comparable to Bob and Sherri, then you've lost your mind. If you are saying they are comparable then you need to leave Jack, the golf/volleyball/tennis coaches out.

Our gymnastics (both) programs and the softball program are top 5-10 in the country over that past 10-15 years.

I was saying they aren't comparable to Capel, not that they were comparable to Sherri or Bob (Stoops). The golf/tennis coaches are new, and the volleyball coach has the program headed in the right direction, but neither of the 3 are comparable to Sherri, Stoops, Gasso, or the gymnastics coaches.

Back on topic...

Booger, you completely missed my point, which happens often. The point was, it is ridiculous to be talking about bringing Terry Evans in as OU basketball coach when OU already has a coach who is under contract through 2014 (I believe) and has the full support of the AD and president (and, in my opinion, the majority of the fans and donors). This may go over your head, but if you're familiar with the term "metaphorically speaking," you might just be able to understand why I used Stoops and Coale to help make my point.

You need to lighten up. Not one time in this thread have I said Capel needs to be fired today and they need to hire Evans.

Popular belief is that if Capel doesn't do something next year he is probably gone. If he is, then I am saying I would be an advocate for hiring Evans. If Capel is allowed to stay and finish his contract but the program is still floundering then they again I would advocate giving Evans a shot. If he turns it around and in 3 years leaves OU for a better job, then they should hire the best person available and that may be Evans.

Why is that so hard to understand? Sometimes, it would be nice if you would just read the thread and comment without coming after me. It's all discussion, and that's it. I don't control what happens with Capel or anybody else in the athletic department. I can barely control what happens with my family. If you don't like the discussion, move on to another thread. It's really pretty simple.

However, I guess this is what I will get from you. At least you aren't personally attacking me as you have done in the past, so I guess I should consider that an upgrade. :ez-laugh:

Capel's judgement year is the '11-'12 season. If he falls on his face, Joe C will make a move.

If you look at the stands during most LNC games, I would say a majority of the fans are not supporting right now...crowds should be larger.

Dang. I guess I've overestimated you, Booger. :ez-laugh:

Nope...you have over-estimated Capels support from the admin, fans, and donors. Funny that you mention the fans and donors support him but nobody attends the games.

When has anyone ever attended OU basketball games on a consistent basis? I'll take that off the air. (and don't say Tubbs era because "THAT AINT TRUE" -Mike Gundy)

Conference games (except Baylor and aTm) were always better attended than this season. The 2 best crowds were free ticket games.

I've watched OU basketball for 35 years and can't remember smaller crowds for multiple games in any previous year. I will agree OU games have never seen a full house every night but definitely more than we have seen thus far this season.

Big difference between the sports. It's not hard to be top 5-10 in mens gymnastics when you only have about 20 Universities competing. Agree that Gasso does a fine job.

I would think Evans would need more experience before he gets hired at OU.

I agree with you, but with that logic you can't bring Sherri into the equation for the exact same reason. In fact, it can easily be argued that Gasso has tougher competition than Sherri...
