The player that enabled OSU to win, Loryn Goodwin, is a 5-9 transfer from UTSA. Last year at UTSA, she scored 17.5 ppg. This year, she is averaging 22.4 ppg at a big school with more competition. Then, let's look at how she actually did.
Last year, she was 38.0% from the field, 27.4% from three, and 69.1% from the free throw line. Why would you go after a player who was a 27.4% three points shooter and hit less than 70% from the line against lesser competition? OSU needed a guard. We really didn't. We were looking at finding a Jacobson who Notre Dame seems to have gotten a waiver to play without sitting out a year. We needed size, not a rather average shooter for a UTSA level school.
This year at OSU, she is hitting 46.9 from the field and 32.0% from three. She is still only 67,83 from the line, even after hitting 9 of 10 against us. Prior to yesterday, she was shooting 65.7 from the line. Her FG% is up, and her scoring is up. But, she also just flat out had a good game against us. She isn't as spectacular as she looked. But, she is the player that OSU needed. They had a Coleman and a Jensen inside with Holt behind them. If you remember last year, we beat them because they had no guard who could bring it up the floor against us, turnover city. Not only was it what they needed, she got better at shooting. We needed help inside. Wasn't there. If you didn't notice, we got some size in the recruiting class.
I think most coaches would disagree with you. In the Big 12 Goodwin is currently: #1 in scoring. #13 in rebounds. #4 in assists. #1 in steals. #2 in A/TO. Her best performances have come against the best teams on the OSU schedule.
