2 things about Bieniemy:

1. As I've said a number of times, I saw him play several times in high school. He was never anywhere close to this good defensively. It just wasn't emphasized by their coach. They played a lot of zone and he could get steals with his length on bad passes, but he wasn't anywhere near this active, wasn't getting into passing lanes, etc. It's tough to describe how much better he is on defense than I thought he'd be this early in his college career. It's like comparing apples to Tuesday.

2. Would anyone say I'm wrong if I said that he's already better than McGusty was last year? They're both from Katy but he's already better than what we got out of McGusty last year even though he's not really scoring.

Just an awesome start to his career.

Im a huge fan. Smartest player on the team. He a coaches kid?

he's jamal bieniemy. are y'all truly unfamiliar with his pedigree?

Spot on. I just saw film from HS, I concur.

Clearly better than McGusty right now. I think Kam problems were all mental. from outside bad friends to immaturity.

I wish Jamal would try to score more. I think he can...

He's much better than McGusty. McGusty was the Twinkie of basketball players, just empty calories. No defense, takes bad shots, doesn't shoot well from 3. His box score might look good at the end of the game, but your team was worse from having him on the floor.

Bienemy, on the other hand, is a jumpshot away from being a lottery pick. He reminds of me of Shae Gilgeous-Alexander.

They're from the same suburb of Houston and, before Kam transferred to Sunrise, went to rival high schools. But Bieniemy is much better.

Better than McGusty last year - YES. Better than Cam's first year, not yet. Cam was a very good his FR year. Don't get me wrong, I love Jamal's upside - has great length and very good anticipation. Shot is not great right now, but that's something young kids grow into sometimes. He is going to contribute much more than I anticipated this season. Very nice surprise.

I certainly know the differences between troy and eric, football and basketball. Especially since I have READ the numerous little stories about him - an exercise that apparently evades at least one of you. I dont know the difference between genuinely inquisitive fans or 20-something acting jerks.

really good court vision for someone who didn't play much point in high school. and easily coachable seeing how quickly he has learned to immediately get his head up, looking to push the ball upcourt off rebounds.

He is better than McGusty was either year. He won't score as much as he did as a freshman but we had nobody on that team able to score.
He's played more defense already this year than McGusty did all of last year.
