Big 12 seeding

It really is amazing how little is known about the conference tournament and we're less than 2 weeks away from the start of it. All we know is Kansas is the 1 seed and TCU is the 10 seed.

At this point, OU could be seeded anywhere from #2 to #6. If we beat Texas on Saturday and WV loses, we can be seeded no lower than 5th at that point. There are some other games of note on Saturday that will help to begin to give us a better picture of seeding and who we might be opening up with in KC: ISU@KSU, Tech@Baylor, KU@OSU

Since 2000 OU has been involved in 8 games where a team has had a chance to beat its opponent 3 times in one season. Here are the results:

2001 OU was 3-0 vs Texas
2002 OU was 3-0 vs Texas
2003 OU was 3-0 vs Texas Tech
2004 Texas was 3-0 vs OU
2008 Texas was 3-0 vs OU
2009 OU failed to beat OSU a third time, losing to OSU in the conference tourney.
2011 Texas was 3-0 vs OU
2013 OU was 3-0 vs West Virginia (played a non conference game early in the season).

So overall OU is 4-1 since 2000 when facing a team it has already beaten twice.

Overall teams are 7-1 since 2000 when facing a team it has already beaten twice.

Well, that pretty well shoots my theory all to heck, doesn't it? You gotta admit, though, those early 2000 OU teams were loaded. We beat lots of folks multiple times.

I guess that '88 season is still making an impression on my thought-process. As you recall, we kicked the jayhawks twice (maybe a third time in the conference tournament), then lost to them – and the officials – in the national championship game.

I hear ya, I was 9yrs old when we lost that game and I can vividly remember thinking that there was "no way" we could lose to Kansas because of our regular season victories over the Jayhawks.
