Big 12 talk (other teams games )

KU, favored by 24.5 points, beat SF Austin by 8.

It can work both ways, though, where early seasons wins, which were ho-hum at the time, actually were better than expected.

Very true. UCF is the one I could see looking better. I just would hate to not have either of those first two be quad 1 wins at the end of the season.

Still can’t believe we lost to butler. They are not a good team. Both of our losses we should’ve and could’ve won but completely fell on our faces down the stretch. Utah st is a good team but the butler loss…yikes.

#24 Piggies ... lost to Hofstra 89/81...sure that went well with the coach..:ez-roll:

gators won...good
auburn is up to #13 at 10-1 (we play jan 29)

watched the pokes/cougars game.

I really enjoyed sampson's tough D when he was here...and he's a heckuva coach. I did get tired of Lon's awesome go lucky attitude (so it seems) sometimes...

But dang...Sampson NEVER seems happy. lol. My 2 cents is Moser is a great in-between...will get into their butts once in awhile but celebrates as well.

just my two cents

Utah St is not bad but they lost to Iowa by 19 yesterday and now have 4 losses. I agree the Butler loss was worse. Unfortunately, we are not likely done with bad games but hope we won’t play that bad again.

Not that surprised about Arky and Fla. Neither are great offensively. I don’t think Arky is great defensively either. But both teams have some good players and both are still good wins for us at this point.

Kelvin’s a great coach. His interviews are different than how he treats people!

I’ve heard he’s a real asshole. I wouldn’t know personally, but I’ve heard he treats people poorly behind the scenes, especially people he views beneath him.

That isn’t true about KS. I’m sure he has been rude to someone at some point in his life. Everyone has. He is a good person as is Kellen and the entire family.

There was a time when a large percentage of our fans disliked KS, mostly because he'd committed the crime of not being Billy Tubbs. There were many second-, third- and fourth-hand accounts of his rudeness then. I wasn't inclined to believe them then, nor am I now.

It is true at times. He’s a self proclaimed asshole.

He said that at coaches clinic a few months back. His first speaking engagement in Oklahoma since he left.

He just happens to coach basketball really well.

Karen Sampson is fabulous. I’ve heard good things about Kellen in the past. I know plenty of Kelvin stories. Again an excellent coach.

I met Kelvin a few times here in KC before the Big 8 tourney and he also knows some of my relatives in the coaching business. I don’t know him so can’t say how he treats people. He treated me cordially but he did seem to have a cockiness about him. I think that helps him be successful.

I met Kelvin at the OU-Alabama game at Madison Square Garden to kick off the 2002-2003 season. He was sitting by himself away from the team during the first game of the night, Syracuse vs Memphis. I couldn't resist, so I ran up to him to congratulate him on making the Final Four the prior year...another OU fan joined me. We quickly shook hands, and he just said "thank you". Both of us OU fans were smart enough to figure out that he was a very INTENSE person who was not open for much conversation. We both quickly retreated to our seats.

I emailed him a few weeks later to tell him that he inspired me to work on my INTENSITY after our brief meeting (I was being sincere). He thanked me for the email, and said about not engaging in conversation at MSG "Right before a game is not my best time".

Through the years, I heard both a lot of positive comments about Kelvin and negative...and I'm betting everyone was right, regardless of their experience. To this day, he is my role model for whenever I'm in a situation which I need to increase my focus and intensity.

Love this story and credit to you for being smart enough to recognize that he didn’t want to chat before the game lol. Other than being a diehard fan since my youth, I have no connection to the program. But when I was in my early 20s, I wrote him a letter and he personally called and invited me to a game in Norman. From there, we would occasionally email, and he even allowed me to attend a couple closed practices, which is not something that he normally does. I think he recognized that my intensity and love for the program was such that he didn’t have to worry about me making noise or being a distraction. He also didn’t let my presence change the way he got on the guys at practice … he said plenty of things that would make a more refined person than me blush. 😊

Well, your story is certainly more interesting than mine...and I'm not surprised that he did this nice gesture for you. Many would have been on "cloud 9" if they got a phone call and a personal invite. I have no doubt Kelvin is a good man...who just happens to have his share of faults like the rest of us.

I sent a message to Sampson thanking him for what he had done for OU basketball. Told him I was a 1956 graduate. He sent back a nice note but did point out that I graduated before he was born.

Well, I'd be a hypocrite if I called out Kelvin for lying about his age...but he was alive in 1956 :).
