It can work both ways, though, where early seasons wins, which were ho-hum at the time, actually were better than expected.
Still can’t believe we lost to butler. They are not a good team. Both of our losses we should’ve and could’ve won but completely fell on our faces down the stretch. Utah st is a good team but the butler loss…yikes.
#24 Piggies ... lost to Hofstra 89/81...sure that went well with the coach..:ez-roll:
gators won...good
auburn is up to #13 at 10-1 (we play jan 29)
Kelvin’s a great coach. His interviews are different than how he treats people!
I’ve heard he’s a real asshole. I wouldn’t know personally, but I’ve heard he treats people poorly behind the scenes, especially people he views beneath him.
That isn’t true about KS. I’m sure he has been rude to someone at some point in his life. Everyone has. He is a good person as is Kellen and the entire family.

I met Kelvin at the OU-Alabama game at Madison Square Garden to kick off the 2002-2003 season. He was sitting by himself away from the team during the first game of the night, Syracuse vs Memphis. I couldn't resist, so I ran up to him to congratulate him on making the Final Four the prior year...another OU fan joined me. We quickly shook hands, and he just said "thank you". Both of us OU fans were smart enough to figure out that he was a very INTENSE person who was not open for much conversation. We both quickly retreated to our seats.
I emailed him a few weeks later to tell him that he inspired me to work on my INTENSITY after our brief meeting (I was being sincere). He thanked me for the email, and said about not engaging in conversation at MSG "Right before a game is not my best time".
Through the years, I heard both a lot of positive comments about Kelvin and negative...and I'm betting everyone was right, regardless of their experience. To this day, he is my role model for whenever I'm in a situation which I need to increase my focus and intensity.
Love this story and credit to you for being smart enough to recognize that he didn’t want to chat before the game lol. Other than being a diehard fan since my youth, I have no connection to the program. But when I was in my early 20s, I wrote him a letter and he personally called and invited me to a game in Norman. From there, we would occasionally email, and he even allowed me to attend a couple closed practices, which is not something that he normally does. I think he recognized that my intensity and love for the program was such that he didn’t have to worry about me making noise or being a distraction. He also didn’t let my presence change the way he got on the guys at practice … he said plenty of things that would make a more refined person than me blush.
I sent a message to Sampson thanking him for what he had done for OU basketball. Told him I was a 1956 graduate. He sent back a nice note but did point out that I graduated before he was born.
