Big 12 talk (other teams games )

Both Sampsons were way out of line. Also the officials got it right.

Even if a case could be made for goaltending, the officials were correct in ignoring the Houston coaching staff’s request. Video reviews are not permitted on judgment calls such as goaltending. A veteran coach like Kelvin should have known the rule.

Correct

Not that it matters with respect to the point you’re making, but I think they can review it if the call on the court is goaltending, but they can’t review if they don’t initially rule goaltending. There was actually a basket interference call on Bama a couple possession prior that was reviewed and upheld.

I can’t say I blame Kelvin too much. In that moment, when you think a call has been missed that determines the outcome of the game, I can understand trying to talk to the refs before they leave the court. Even if he knows the rule, you have to at least try to get them to reconsider/confer. That said, as the head coach, he also should have been the one to try to calm his players, but he seemed to just watch as things went downhill.

Both sampsons were way out of line, but the refs blew the call. The ball was on its way down when blocked. By rule that is goal tending

The way I saw it was that it was an airball, so swatting it was the same as grabbing it as a rebound.

He got in the refs way, I think put hands on him, and wouldn't let him leave. I can't believe he didn't get suspended.

I love Sampson and think he's twice the coach Lon ever was. I also wouldn't be embarrassed by a chair getting kicked. I'd be more embarrassed by the people getting embarrassed -- it wasn't a small child.

Having said that, I'm all aboard the Moser era, and I can't understand why anybody wouldn't be. Joe C went out and got the most coveted coach on the market.

Curious why you felt the need to inject your opinion on Lon’s coaching into this thread that has nothing to do with him.

Posters like to manufacture a way to get their digs in from time to time. I have been guilty of that once or twice myself…and quite certain you’re not innocent, either :).

Using the Bill Parcells philosophy of “You are what your record says you are”, the FACTS don’t bear much of a difference between the two former OU head coaches. They have similar NCAA Tournament records, and have been to the Sweet 16, Elite Eight and Final Four the EXACT same number of times. They both have won wherever they went as well. Kelvin’s W-L record is better as he has won 67% of his games to Lon’s 60%, but Lon certainly has less baggage. It’s a good comparison, but there are no factual details to state one coach is significantly better than the other.

After years of certain posters carping about Kruger, I too would like to see the digs at him stop. Those posters got their wish: He's gone. They may be disappointed he retired and was not fired, but surely that's a disappointment they can move past.

I have made an effort not to respond to the digs at Coach Kruger, if not other reason than to avoid enduring the meltdown one poster invariably went into whenever someone dared to stand up for him, but yeah, an end to the Kruger-negativity at long last would be very welcome indeed.

BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH

False. The mere mention of Lon's name seems to trigger a notification on several posters' phones, and two of the poster-children have already responded to the bat-signal.

Sorry for mentioning an OU head basketball coach in a discussion about OU head basketball coaches.

I really wasn't trying to trigger Lon's loverboys, though it is amusing it still works so promptly. More than anything, I'm saying I'm tired of talking about Sampson. It was tough rapidly plunging into mediocrity over the last few years while one of our ex-coaches is cranking out top 10 coaches at a mid-major, but we have our new coach now. I'd say Porter was at the top of my realistic options list, but honestly...didn't see him as a realistic option.

I'm not saying he will be the guy to finally lead us to the Promised Land, but I'm all aboard the Moser-bus, and I think we all should have reason to optimistically move forward.

Not false. Since the arrival of Coach Moser, I have not engaged on the topic of Coach Kruger even as the usual suspects have continued to get in their digs. I did while he was at OU, it's true, and why in the world wouldn't I? Why do you and your fellow "bat signal" wise-acre so fervently desire to have your critiques go uncountered? If you desire an echo chamber where your opinions go unchallenged, surely by now you've learned that this is not the spot.

Okay, I’m going to switch gears here. Why did you not think of Coach Moser as a “realistic option”? Oklahoma has a run of FIVE consecutive head basketball coaches who have at least made the Sweet 16, with the last four of them going to at least the Elite Eight. How is that not enticing to a head coach who is not coaching in one of the Power 5 conferences?

Excellent post, WaymanFan! Stats show they both are damn good coaches.

I think probably bc he seemed like such a program guy there at loyola and likely it just seemed too good/right/obvious to be true. Moser is going to be our first natty winning coach IMO. Im ecstatic - through the roof

It’s looking more and more likely that the Florida and Arky wins won’t help us as much as we would hope.

It can work both ways, though, where early seasons wins, which were ho-hum at the time, actually were better than expected.
