Big Annoucment from Pres Boren

I doubt either. I think they would have more of a political or academic type, maybe even out of state.

Agree. If it is true that Boren is retiring, I think it figured into the timing of Stoops retirement. He always mentioned Boren and Castiglione as the 2 best people he could work for.

It was always just DBO -- for now. Tom Cole or Frank Keating likely next OU President.

Boren was given ultimatum...retire with emeritus status or be fired. Firing Posse led by Clay Bennett, Frank Keating, Renzi Stone.

Where did you get this?

I have heard some of the same rumors...though Oliver's story is more dramatic and embellished than what I heard. Basically that over the year's Boren has done some things without completely vetting it through the Regents...particularly the 1 cent sales tax state question. What I heard is he was encouraged to retire gracefully...rather than be fired if he had refused, the Regents would have decreased Boren's ability to do things without their approval.

I'm not thrilled with either one of those names as a potential replacement.

Pretty much what I heard a few weeks ago although Mattress Mary was mentioned as his replacement. Talk about destroying a University in the matter of months, or weeks, place that puppet in charge! All the tremendous gains Boren has made the last 20+ years, will evaporate quickly. I think well over half of current faculty will leave as soon as they get another job.

The potential to destroy an entire athletic program and forfeit any academic reputation within three to five years is there if they try to operate this University like they have operated the education of Oklahoma. As long as you are only competing within Oklahoma, the failure is masked. When competing nationally, forget it.

She's better than that! She could destroy OU's reputation in LESS than 3 years! Hopefully that never happen but it wouldn't surprise me at all if it happened.

I have also heard Frank Keating will be the next president. We will see..

Syb, trust me. I've got great sources on this. Keating was walking around the other day on campus carrying of folder that looked to be marked "Transition" on it. Have also heard that Keating has quietly asked other regents when he should resign in order to be officially considered.

I want a good president. I could live with Cole. He's an honorable man. Keating. Nope. The man stood in the alley after the OKC bombing rubbing dirt on his face for a television interview. OKC station has/had the video of him doing it.

I've also been told his health is worse than Boren's.

I'd be shocked and surprised if they put a 68 or 73 year old in as president of OU. I have no doubt the regents will place a puppet in that position but they will be younger.

Neither is smart enough to run a university nor willing to put in the work it would take. Neither are academics. I would be horrified if either became President. I am not a Boren fan for many reasons, but those two buffoons would be terrible. Only thing about Cole, would get him out of the House. Maybe he would have significant people around him to operate the university and he would just be a figurehead.

With Clay Bennett in charge, no woman nor minority will be considered. Also, look to see social progressiveness of university of university going backwards, not that it is that socially progressive. But there is lip service by the administration.

But supposedly we were competing nationally with other private universities as far as the number of top academic students being brought in. Though I believe being top academically is not automatically a person who is good for the university, but it is one marker.

I don't believe for a minute that they will hire Fallin. They have to hire someone who can at least pretend to be an academic, plus an administrator.
My bet is on a white male who has a doctorate, law degree, or master's and is intelligent.

We really weren't. I know we've been bragging for forty years about attracting so many merit scholars. It might have been because there was a monetary value that stretched far at OU with tuition rates. But, we weren't in competition with Harvard, Stanford, Yale, Princeton, or Cal Tech for the best prospects. Some of them have the resources to give scholarships to all freshmen if they wish. I saw recently that engineering majors at Stanford were being paid over $100,000 per year by industry beginning with their junior year. We can't compete with that. Boren was trying to set up maybe a group of 500 to 1000 that would generate that type of recognition. It creates opportunities.
