Brady Manek has committed to OU

Congrats to both Brady Manek and the OU coaching staff! This is the most exciting time to be an OU hoops fan since the late 1980s or the early 2000s!

.....and he's an instate product which is always a plus.

To be fair to jackson he's technically right. Manek is "only" rated in everyone's top 150. Technically there are 90-130 players better out there that Lon could get depending on which service you follow.

My how times have changed when fans are *****ing about a consensus top 150 commit. How many of those do we even have on our current roster?

Thank you! Uh!! Finally someone who gets me! ;) nah I could care less about rankings... If we all went off rankings Lebryan Nash woulda been a top 5 pick after his freshman year! :ez-roll: I'm more about the tape. I guess I am a pretty awful person for saying Lon has brought program to a level of being able to be picky...

I thought he looked good on tape.

2 years left in school. Mcgusty wasnt even ranked when we offered him... or Odomes...

Helps when the staff knows what they are doing... They get in on kids early and they give them directions to continue to get better and improve.

To each their own.

I thought he looked okay. Big. Has some skills. I didn't see a ton of athleticism.

I see a good player, but not one I'd expect to be ranked as highly as he is now, 2 years from now. And maybe that is fine. Not everybody is recruited to come in and be a star, or even a starter. I see him as a career backup type. That is why my eyes tell me. Maybe he hits another growth spurt, and ends up being 6'11 with the same athleticism. That would change things. But I don't see the SF talk at all. He is going to play 4/5 in college. Maybe a 4/5 with a bit of a perimeter game, but I don't see him matching up with 3's in today's game.

I don't really question LK on recruiting, b/c he hasn't really given us a reason to yet. I'm just saying my eyes don't see a top 150 kid when I watch his tape. Still a solid player, and certainly a good guy to fill a roster out with, most likely.

Let's not forget we've had a player committed before that Kruger told to go elsewhere b/c he didn't improve much from his soph to senior years. And LK has also had offers that he has pulled b/c kids didn't get better. There is no guarantee this doesn't play out the same way.

Like I mentioned above, it's not like we don't have examples of this staff offering kids early, even having them commit, and then asking them to go elsewhere and/or pulling their offers.

It's really difficult to predict what a guy starting his soph year will look like in 2-3 years. You offer some of them early in hopes of guessing right, but you also have a window to back out if they don't improve.

Some offers are not committable. Long, meyer from Mustang i assume you are talking about.

Deleted a post and some replies to it. It's Friday. Happy times. :D :woot

Saw him this summer at GASO (where the highlights are from), worth an offer IMO...in-state kid, good skills for his size, room to improve. He needs to grow or spend some time on ball handling, otherwise he may get stuck in a tweener role. 6'7" seems a little on the generous side, but everyone does it.

My guess is he's only 16, could be a completely different player in two years.

Literally hit the nail on the head brother! Good post!

Yeah that's more what I'm thinking. If he was a LEGIT 6'8" or 6'9" then I wouldn't think it would be a big deal. He's dangerously close to that Tyler Neal type player. If he grows to be 6'9" 6'10" then he could be better then what he looks on tape. If he stays around 6'6" to 6'7" and they use him as a SF he will have issues defending guards who are a lot more agile than him. He doesn't look to be a "great" ball handler maybe decent but not great. I just hate offering a kid only to later tell them to look elsewhere. But I know It's part of the process. And hell he may turn out to be a worthy of the offer. But from what I've seen I think along the same lines as you In that he will be a tweener who isn't "extremely" athletic (for D1 ball) and could end up a CJ Cole or Tyler Neal.

For everyone talking about his height, I know the kid and I thought 6'7 was a little low. I think he is a legit 6'8. The only question about him playing on the perimeter is can he guard someone out there? He is definitely skilled enough offensively to play out there. From everything I've heard, they are planning on using him as a stretch 4 with the possibility of moving to the 3 some.

Saw him at an OU Practice a couple weeks ago talking to Spangler. He looked every bit as tall or taller than RS. That would make him a legit 6-8". Guess we need to get a measuring tape out!
