Brady Manek-The Oklahoman's Athletes of the Week

right, so even though he's (polla) is 265 he's more like Freeman (as far as not a banger down low)..right?

I don't think so. Polla plays in the paint. He posts people up offensively. Freeman hangs on the perimeter. I don't think they play anything alike from what I've read.

I expect Polla to be more like Evan "Hootie" Wiley or even Renzi Stone

I hope that's right. I was looking at his stats in international play and he isn't getting many rebounds. He averages 3.8 per game. So, either he's not playing much or he's not a good rebounder. Or, the other team is shooting consistently about 80%. :ez-laugh:

These articles describe Polla as a banger to me. I guess we will know in a few months.

I read somewhere that the Finnish team has something like 7 players who are 6'8" or taller. Arizona signed their best player last year: Lauri Markkenan who is a 7 footer and projected as a possible NBA lottery pick. That tells me that Polla is sharing minutes with a lot of post players, but this could be his first year as a starting center. Just guessing.....

I haven't seen Manek play but the stuff I'm reading on this thread make him sound a lot like Doolittle. That would be tremendous. For those that have seen him play is that a good comparison?

Yes, I realize I did the unthinkable....players of different skin color have similar games. :)

I'm hoping Manek is like Kyle Singler. I would be very happy with that game. :)

I haven't seen him in person but have seen plenty of Youtube. Manek looks pretty good but he'd need to lock himself in the weightroom from now till Nov to be ready for B12 bball. That's one thing that really helps Doolittle... His overall body strength and physical maturation.

Is there a link for any of Manek's stats against the upper echelon competition? I'm begging for rebounding. Hoping he likes to rebound!

Not really. Kristian is much more powerful and physical. Kristian is also a much better defender both on the perimeter and in the paint. Brady is a very good catch and shoot guy, but will struggle mightily with the physical nature of college basketball (very similar to Freeman here). Brady does not enjoy contact, and has not played the consistent level of competition that other elite players see night in and night out. He will have a major adjustment period with getting offensive separation and being able to defend his space. However, he has a VERY nice offensive skill set with which to work from. Brady should be better than Tyler Neal (although T Neal was a far more physical player). Manek has fantastic blood lines, so I expect to see him really improve with his time on campus. Manek will be a nice addition in time, but he isn't Doolittle.

Manek could be a very nice Big12 player by the time he's finished. However, I don't see him contributing the 1st year & maybe not the 2nd. He's very skilled & competitive. But he's very skinny & defense is optional for his current team. I think the competition level will raise his effort on defense but I believe there will still be an adjustment period for him.

Thanks for the highlight video, OkHoopsReport! I really like Manek's court vision and the quick release on his shot. He makes everything he does look easy.
