Bruce Weber?: Tulsa World

He does have the number 11 recruiting class according to ESPN. Not saying they would all come, if any, nor does it mean they'd be good, i.e. TMG and TG, but that does give me a little hope...

I doubt any would follow him to OU if he came here. Every single one of the kids is from Chicago.

So I guess that means we have to hire a guy who's won 90% of his games? :facepalm

Joe C can hire whoever he wants. If he wants to take a guy that Illinois fans would be happy to hand deliver on a silver platter to him than go right ahead. He can barely keep Illinois in the tournament and we weren't happy with a guy that took us to the elite 8 sooo..... go right ahead.

I guess I just don't understand how a guy that can't make the tourney from the MVC is a better candidate than a guy that makes it almost every year from the Big 10.

He isn't Brad Stevens or Phil Jackson therefore he sucks

did you have temporary amnesia the last 2 years

Umm Weber took (past tense) Illinois to the National Championship. He also was in the tournament this year.

Capel took (past tense) OU to the Elite 8, but has done basically nothing since.

It makes perfect sense to cling to sub-500 ball when we can get a guy who gets decent recruits instead of JUCO guys, and consistently gets to the tourney.

kinda like they aren't completely happy with a coach who took them to the championship game.

Weber has never been fully embraced by the illini because of the success Bill Self had. Bill Self is a tough act to follow, highest win% at Tulsa, Illinois, & Kansas.

I really don't understand how you could support Capel so ardently and dismiss a coach like Weber. Can you provide a rational explanation?

Weber has won 20+ games in 9 of his last 10 seasons. Capel won 20+ games in 3 of his 8 seasons as a coach.

If the committee didn't screw us over and put us in the same region as UNC just so they can see Griffin v. Hansbrough...We would be saying that Capel took us to the championship game as well.

Dude, give it up. He's gone.

I wanted Capel back too but it's time to move on.

Weber has a 15-10 postseason record (NIT and NCAA) with 2 Sweet 16's and a 2nd place finish. He's only presided over 1 conference losing record between SIU and UofI. He has a 0.679 career winning percentage.

Sounds perfectly acceptable for a program that just went 13-18 and 14-18 in subsequent years, and won a combined total of 9 conference games.
