I remember that team, we started 2-5 in conference and finished the year on a tear winning at Missouri and at OSU. Billy Packer picked us as his sleeper pick for the final four. We were on our way to beating KU when he hurt his knee. We likely would have won the Big 8 Tournament and would have gone deep into the NCAA's as we had a favorable draw in the West region if Sallier does not get hurt. I remember walking around campus and seeing him with a knee brace on and his leg propped up on his buddies car as they listened to loud rap music and thinking to myself that there was no way he was playing in the tourney.
I moved to Minnesota the next year after graduation and had the opportunity to see the MN and OU NIT game at the Target Center. Sallier checked into the game for a few minutes in the first half and had no energy whatsoever. He threw up an airball and was a mere shadow of what I had seen the previous year.
