Buzz's buyout

Lol didn't you say on another thread that buzz to ou a a done deal? It seems you have alot of "sources"....
I know the library lady, can I count her as a source?

I never claimed to have a source. I have ZERO. All I'm saying is at this point, I'll listen to the guys that know something over the ones that don't. That's it.

I'm skeptical of the $3.8 figure too, but that's the only one that has been leaked. I'm not even claiming to be right. I'm probably not.

Do you really trust a twitter post from some guy in Arkansas? Your thread is where this notion of a $3.8 million buyout got started.

Frankly, I doubt if it's anywhere near that much. Here's a post I made to that thread with more credible information that shows there is little or no correlation to a coach's salary and his buyout. Obviously it was overlooked or ignored, so I'll repeat it:

Buyouts are typically considerably less than the annual salary. Take a look at this list of coaches and you'll see what I mean.

Rick Barnes doesn't even have a buyout in his contract. Turgeon makes $1.5 mil and has a buyout of $1 mil. Same thing for Jamie Dixon. Steve Alford's salary is at $1.1 million, his buyout is $400,000. Arizona is paying Sean Miller $2 million, his buyout is a mere $500,000.

If I'm Buzz Williams and my buyout is $3.8mm, I'm hacked off that Marquette isn't paying me more. That's a hefty buyout for someone making his current salary.
This.

If Buzz signed a deal with a buyout like that, there's no way he would ever get to leave for another school until that contract is up or he is fired. For the lack of flexibility that contract would leave him, I seriously doubt he would sign it.

Just my opinion.

buyouts are whatever they negotiate them to be. It's a contract, that's all. If a school is paying a guy a heftier salary than any they have done in the past then they certainly have a motivation to set a higher buyout.

EVEN IF he has/had a $3.8 million buyout the parties can always barter over it after the fact. They could agree to OU playing 2 consecutive games at Marquette, slave services, postergirl pinups, or Joe C. soiling himself in the townsquare. Either way as someone mentioned before if a coach seeks to leave then you probably don't want him there anyway.

I definitely agree that the buyout seems fishy, but Buzz stated himself that he doesn't have an agent. I don't know if Buzz is dumb or not but can assume that he doesn't know the exact economics of a contract. That leads me to believe that Marquette had/has a little wiggle room to write-in such a crazy number.

A quote from Buzz

"I've never given Marquette a number. I don't have an agent. I'm not involved in any of that, and I'll never give them a number. I still have the same stance as I did when I was hired - pay me what you think the job is worth, pay me for as long as you want me to be here, and bottom line, take care of my wife and my four kids."

This article also mentions Buzz only gets $1 mill a year while other sites have him at $1.5...I guess it's just a wait and see ordeal.

Some only mention strictly the salary while others include non-salary benefits paid. It's like when K was mentioned some had him at $4.2 million and others at $2 million.
