Capel Adds Newell, Ahmed to OU Recruiting Class

If this isn't the most eclectic collection of basketball players in Oklahoma history, I'd love to know what is.

Thanks for the link...mystery man no longer a mystery.

And finally we can put the Newell LOI speculation to rest. Thank you jesus.

Alright, recruiting is done.

Let the real speculation begin. May-November.

"It was clear to us here at the Canarias Basketball Academy that Oklahoma was the right choice for Abdi. Coach Capel's proven track record with developing big men and the opportunity of playing time added with the Oklahoma basketball tradition were all reasons for Abdi's decision."
I'm guessing Capel didn't exactly advertise that his assistant coach in charge of post players is leaving...

Yeah, I'm sure that was a huge cover-up. Also I'm sure we'll never be able to hire another assistant coach that can be in charge of post players. Ever again.

The coach specifically cited the ability of Capel (Cline) to develop big men. Sure OU will hire another coach to work with post players but Cline had skins on the wall.

The latest in a long line of ridiculous – and totally uncalled for – posts here on OUHoops.

In just its third season, the Canarias Basketball Academy has already paid dividends to a big group of their players. 15 former CBA alumni have enrolled in Ncaa Div 1 schools over the last 2 seasons in the CBA.
The Academy is proud of the success of its alumni and follows with the same energy and enthusiasm than the first day in order to beat this historic record.

English player, Abdi Sabour Ahmed, worked his best during 2009/2010 Season at Canarias Basketball Academy and now he has a Full Scholarship to the University of Oklahoma Sooners to show for it.

Abdi´s going to play in the BIG 12 Conference and will play against the likes of Kansas, Texas, Baylor, Kansas State and others.

Congratulations and Good Luck Abdi!.

Its weird that random fans give 100% of the credit for developing big men to Cline, when both Griffins and Longar all credited Capel just as much or more for their development. As I have said many times before, Capel has made enough mistakes as it is. No need to take all credit away for what he has done well.

Anyone have a clue if Ahmed will be ready to contribute or if he's a guy we're going to try to develop slowly?

I don't think anybody knows anything about him outside of the coach(es).

That said, it seems Capel really overturned every rock to fill out this class. I'm actually surprised it turned out this well considering the "must-have" guys we whiffed on earlier.
