Capel Adds Newell, Ahmed to OU Recruiting Class

Water under the bridge wayne and payne. You can call me out all that you like. The proof is in the pudding. Go back about 2-3 weeks ago. I continued to tell people that the program would be just fine. This board was going down. People were talking about the demise of the program. Now today it seems to be a little different. Really doesn't matter what you think wayne's world. I know what I know. BOOMER SOONER BABY!!!

1. A lot of people continued to tell the program would be just fine

2. Your self braggery is all the proof anyone needs.

I think what some people are pointing out is that 1: clearly not everyone was a doom and gloomer on this board (I would venture to say that the majority were not).

Secondly, if your contention is that it doesn't matter how you knew the information ahead of time but that "I continued to tell people that the program would be just fine"--it begs the question of what would put people in a position to trust your information? I think SoonerQuick makes some good points, and we certainly know that he and a few others are in particular situations that make them closer to the program than the rest of us. Optimism in posting is certainly welcome, but to come onto the board in a--I told you so but won't tell you how I knew--manner can rub people the wrong way.

Being an "insider" and having access to information that is not gnerally known seems to be very important to many posters. Personally I didn't know squat about who Capel would sign, but I still had faith that he would be successful rebuilding this team with quality, hard-working recruits.

And for argument's sake, I'd say the gloom-and-doomers made up about 50 percent of this board just a few short weeks ago. Regardless of what you might think of Faithful, I'll take him over any bandwagon fan any day of the week.

Faithful, while I appreciate your always-positive attitude, OU fans have every right to complain about last season. Capel himself has said more than once that he was not happy with the job he did. Frankly, I can't think of a worse season in the last thirty years, and I'm not just talking about the won-loss record.

I believe the majority of fans are pleased, though not totally satisfied, with the recruiting class Coach Capel put together. It's certainly a lot better than I expected two short weeks ago. But, filling several vacant spots with a nice class under the circumstances, will not erase the memory of a season gone wrong overnight. You are to be commended for your ability to fight through the adversity unscathed. Not everyone can do that, nor should you expect them to.

This.

While I agree Faithful that there were a few posters who were literally jumping ship, it was definitely not the majority. The majority of posters on here are knowledgeable and had a right to be concerned, myself included. I don't consider that to be "doom and gloom". Like it was pointed out optimism in posting is certainly welcome and I admire your cheerful attitude even when times are bad but you are not the only one who has kept hope alive for the program. Also as qwerty and wayne pointed out the way you went about bragging about "I told you so" when we signed recruits that obviously few if any knew about, then when confronted you back off your stance it can rub people the wrong way.

Ada brings up a good point, last seasons tragedy of a season went way beyond just a won/loss record but the way the team handled themselves on and off the field. That just simply cannot happen again and I don't blame fans for not being pleased and being concerned. The new recruits definitely give fans something to look forward too and hopefully they work hard during the off season and give us all a team to be proud of!

So now that you are getting called out is when it starts not to matter? classic.
Not saying you are the one who is calling out faithful but since you brought up the subject.
If somebody is being called out on a subject like this I think we should stop per the standard that was set a few weeks ago.
Exactly!

We're not going to allow anyone to be called out for posting a report that may or may not have been accurate at the time, so don't even start that crap.

Just my two cents.

Sorry you percieve my confidence in the program wrong. Who says I'm backing off of anything about the new recruits. I'm not. I just can't give up sources or specifics. I do apologize that I can't do that, but anyway guys all of your comments and points are well taken. I'll just say this to all of you that have any doubt. FELTON JEFFERY CAPEL IS STILL THE COACH! OU BASKETBALL STILL LIVES! Last point is just to watch the program rise from the adversity that it just went through. Also please remember that when you make your comments to me they are simply that. They don't discourage me in anyway. You know what you know and I know what I know. The trick is too bad you really don't know what I know. BOOMER SOONER BABY!!!:clap

Thank you scrybe. I think some people are on this board because of what people think. I'm not. As long as there is OU basketball. I will be here. WHAT IS SELF BRAGGERY? BOOMER SOONER BABY!!!:ez-roll:

Trust me. It's not a matter of holding out on anyone. If you notice when everyone on here was feeding you the doom and gloom bull. I just kept saying let it all play out. As a matter of fact if you go back in my post history. I let one go one day about a player (Blair) transferring from a D-1 school that would be able to play for us next season. Things are not 100% in the clear yet, but I think we will be fine. Don't forget we are still in the process of cleaning of a NCAA mess. BOOMER SOONER BABY!!!

Just because Capel signed 8 dudes to the squad, of which only two were highly recruited, doesn't mean Capel will be playing for Big12 championships.

Capel has an uphill battle and one that can be overcome with two new STOUT and EXPERIENCED assistants. He needs the help and these 8 new prospects needs a ton of development to turn this ship away from the iceberg.

For OU's sake I hope he does it in the next two years.

You know what you know and I know what I know. The trick is too bad you really don't know what I know.

The reality is, what you know only matters to you if you don't share it with anyone. ;)

It's fine to keep information to yourself to protect your "sources." But you shouldn't be surprised if people ask questions when you say you knew all along well after the fact.

Frankly, the fact that everyone is so positive right now puts emphasis of what these message boards are.

I'm not positive. I feel better than I did a few weeks ago, but I'm still not happy with the direction this program has taken in such a short amount of time. I'm not praising anyone at this point. The proof is in the pudding (and I'm not even talking about wins and losses). The proof for me will be in how disciplined this team is next year. Has Coach Capel learned a lesson or is he patching holes?

The fact that we're in trouble with the NCAA just a few years after our last trouble with the NCAA (and the reason that Coach Capel is here in the first place) only exasperates the situation.

I wasn't thrilled with the Capel hire. I was proven wrong QUICKLY when he recruited Blake, Willie, etc., and took this team far in the NCAA tourney in '09. He won me over. Now, given what has happened, he will have to win me over again. I'll be there next year (though as I have stated before, college basketball is looking more and more like the NBA to me, and I'm beginning to fall out of love with college basketball) and I will give OU basketball under Coach Capel the opportunity to win me back. I will not, at this point, be thrilled with the situation we're in.

Again, it's better than three weeks ago, but I don't know that it could have been much worse.

if you know so much, or think you know so much... what do you know, or think you know about the assistant coaching positions????

It is not necessary to divulge sources. You can always say " I heard this from an insider whom I trust" or "a friend told me....".

This!

It is not necessary. But it is always, always preferable to have on the record sourcing.

I agree. The only thing I'm saying is, if you come across some information from someone who needs to have their identity protected (perhaps someone really close to a coach or someone in the athletic department), then I would just say a friend told me.

I have no problem with anyone's opinion on this thread. So as far as I'm concerned the case is close. I would love to be able to answer questions about what I know, but I can't. At the same time I will be positive until I know something negative is true, so if I don't share the same doom and gloom that some of you do because of pure speculation. Don't get upset. That's it for me on this thread and BOOMER SOONER BABY!!!:clap
