Capel doesn't seem to respect TMZ as a sports entity.

"It was the first time I have ever seen anything with TMZ and sports. I was thinking, when did they start investigating sports?"
-Jeff Capel

He must not read bocabull posts.

You are starting some strange threads today....

I don't respect TMZ as any kind of entity. They are the digital version of the National Enquirer as far as I'm concerned.

Just remember the National Enquirer was nominated for a Pulitzer this year. Strange world we live in isn't it?

That's all well and good, and their method of gathering information certainly isn't my cup of tea, but the important question is: "Was their Tiny Gallon story accurate?" We don't know at this point, but it certainly seems as though the Oklahoma athletic department respects them enough to thoroughly investigate their claims. It is pretty easy to dismiss TMZ out of hand and minimize them as nothing more than a tabloid publication, as you and Jeff Capel are doing, and you might be right, but to me the more important question, given this is OUHoops.com, is: "Were they right about Tiny Gallon?"

I hope not.

I'm wondering where the quote is in which Jeff Capel said "I don't respect TMZ as a sports entity", or "I'm dismissing TMZ out of hand and minimizing them as nothing more than a tabloid publication."

I must have missed those statements from him.

I don't believe you'll see me putting those statements in quotation marks and attributing them to Jeff Capel. I am of course reading between the lines, something you seem more than capable of doing when it comes to thebigabd's intent when starting threads about Jeff Capel saying there was nothing he could have done this season

I suppose you could make the argument that Jeff Capel was just saying he didn't realize that TMZ was in the business of covering sports simply as a dispassionate interpretation of the state of electronic media in 2010, but I'm going to go ahead and assume he was making a point.

I'm not trying to be a jerk, I'm just saying let's not put words in Coach's mouth. I watched the interview and honestly that's not how I took it. To me it just seemed like he answered the question matter-of-factly, stating he did not know TMZ was in the business of sports journalism. But different people can watch the same interview and take it two different ways. I could be wrong.

Exactly.
