Capel not implicated in NCAA's OU basketball probe

A big eff you to Talliaferro for waiting so long to talk to the NCAA.

Capel should'nt be implicated,he was the head coach and hired Talliaferro, but that does'nt make Jeff a partner in ignorance, just stupid for hiring a fool.I say as OU fans once again lets suck it up & move on!!We as a University have to much to offer athletes to ever be ashamed off!!Go Sonners!!!!!

I will be so glad when this crap is over. The last 8 years or so have been very trying for OU basketball fans. Happy to have a no nonsense guy.

Sure Jeff had no idea what he was getting into when he hired OT

Capel should be implicated.
Assistants shouldn't be allowed to break the rules while the head coach pleads ignorance.
Give the whole staff a show cause ban.
Let the coaching profession know they are not working on a island.
Maybe they'll take cheating a bit more serious if the consequences are also serious.

Of course Capel knew some underhanded dealings were going on. As a good coach, you implement a system of integrity which you want to pass on to your players, you let your staff know what is expected of them, and demand it. You don't hire people that you KNOW have sleeze oozing from their pores.

What did Jim Calhoun do compared to OT?

Does the NCAA give thes show cause bans very often? Do the coaches ever get a second chance?

I think Gaylon Hall got a second chance after some pretty serious penalties related to football. I am pretty sure Joe Paterno gave him a second chance.

I've been one of the Jeff Capel supporters on this site through the last two years. However, when this first came down, I asked a friend and co-worker who played 4 years of hoops at South Carolina if something like this could happen and the head coach not know anything about it. My friend said it was highly unlikely that Jeff Capel could have not known about this.

At the time, I told my friend I didn't want to believe him, but as I've gotten to know him better, the guy is usually spot on with what he talks about regarding hoops. I guess we'll never know for sure, but at the very least, Coach Capel probably at least should have known what was going on.

The NCAA's priority in enforcement isn't to stamp out cheating. It's to punish the coaches who can't cheat without the public seeing it. They know everyone breaks the rules. The punishment is about how much of your rule breaking is published in the media.

there is no way Capel should be able to walk away from this mess with a clean name and 2 mill in hand:capelspin:jcapel:facepalm

It was rumored TMG asked for some money too once he found out about Gallon. If that is the case, Capel certainly knew about something.

Could be but what if once tmg found out equals when Capella found out?

Capel had to know there was a problem with Gallon owing money to his prep school to get his high school transcript.

Wonder if he ever asked how the issue got resolved? Maybe he heard that they borrowed the money from someplace, we'll never know.

Having said that, there seldom is a paper trail to the head coach, they always need plausible deniability. Assistants know they have to throw themselves on the sword, if it comes to it.

I believe JC might have known but it was probably after the fact. OT was a total loose cannon.
