Capel should consider Kareem Jabbar as Assistant

Is Kareem in charge of video equipment? If not that disqualifies him for the asst job

It might make a good marriage: LINK

Is it such a bad suggestion that I can't even get a discussion going on this?

It's just Kareem Abdul Bizarre.

I remember going to the all-college in 99 when OU played ORU or Tulsa. I believe the 2nd game was Western Kentucky and somebody else, maybe Tulsa or OSU. On the WKU team was Kareem Abdul Jabaar Jr.

The kid was about 6'7" and had a big afro, that reminded me of Fletch.

I asked some WKU fans and they said it was one of his many offspring. The kid was horrible.

Jr. used to come to the ORU team camp every year with his team from Brentwood...i think we graduated the same year...he was pretty bad...i cant believe he played for WKU...

Although I've heard many ideas worse than this, if the main reason is to get someone to coach the "bigs", I have a much better suggestion. Reputation-wise, the best "big man" coach on the planet is an OU grad named Clifford Ray. I believe he's with the Celtics right now, but I would pursue him before Kareem.

The reason Kareem never got a chance to coach at a high level is because he is extremely aloof...easily rubs people the wrong way, plus has a short fuse. He's strictly better off coaching bigs in the NBA...one-on-one tutoring.

I've suggested Clifford Ray many times. I run into his sister fairly often. Clifford may be in worse health than Jabbar. He did fantastic work with Dwight Howard. Clifford Ray needs the money from pro coaching. Jabbar does not and Jabbar has bench coaching aspirations.

Every argument against Jabbar is always his about aloofness and personality. I say Jeff Capel can help make Kareem more Kareem-like (which in Arabic means generous and friendly).

If Capel has that talent, OU wouldn't be in the situation they're in right now. Getting guys like Gallon, TMG and WW to commit to a team concept should be easy compared to completely changing the personality of a 63 year old man like Kareem.

Interesting comeback. It all depends on how much the target wants to buy in. My take is everyone, Warren included, were all intrigued by Blake's success but were each convinced they were NBA bound, team or no-team. If you want to lay all that on Capel, power to you.

In Kareem's case, he may also be a lost cause. It depends on how desperate he is to be a head coach. People can mellow. I'm not sure and I will research it further but I think Kareem may be a fan of Wayman's music. I do know he mentions Wayman in this jazz article:

Jazz-and-Basketball

The celtics didn't bring Ray back as a coach this year. I wish he would end up up at OU as an assistant.

I saw Kareem coach the Enid team in the pro basketball league a few years ago.

It was a joke. His assistant did all the coaching, he just sat on the bench and twidled his thumbs.
