I know it's soon and he's most likely still disappointed.

If he would have shown up and said "No hard feelings. It's just business. I wanted to be here with Blake and other ex Ou players & coaches" it would have been a wise move.

As you get older you learn that time heals all wounds and it's up to the people involved how quick/long the time is.

I'm sure he will someday. I don't fault him or the administration at all if it was considered "too soon".

People do need to lay off Capel with the - nobody has tried to reunite the old Sooners stuff. Coach Capel held several reunions, brought Wayman back into the program to speak with the players (especially Blake) multiple times, and held a fantasy camp with former Sooner greats.

I'm not trying to say that what Lon Kruger did this weekend wasn't excellent, but Coach Capel did some things to try and utalize OU tradition.

That awkward moment will come eventually. Might as well break the ice ASAP because after it's done people forgive/forget and move on usually for the better.

Would've been pretty hard for Capel to have been there considering he's not even in the country right now. He flew from China with the Duke basketball team to Dubai.

And it would not have been the right time for Capel to come back. Once the guys he signed are gone, then he should definitely come back. But not until then.

Not sure if he'll ever be back. He had no ties to the university or state before hand, and was fired when he clearly felt that he didn't deserve to be. The only way I can see him coming back is if he we retire Blake's number or something.

Uh... Capel has a new job that he can't just up and leave. The Duke team barely made it back from its European tour before Irene shut down North Carolina. I don't think he was avoiding OU.

I don't think many believe that he will avoid OU now or in the future. He is a class act and I am sure he will always be proud of the guys he coached and the success he had while he was here (and yes he did have some success).

This. I'm not sure he'll ever come back.

Why? Kelvin had no ties to this program either....neither did Billy.

Capel made it to an elite 8, won a conference championship, and coached a literal basketball icon at this university. He has some fond memories and some good accomplishments to remember his days at OU. It doesn't have to be all bad.

He will be back. Maybe not this year (and who would expect him to) but he will be back.

Was about to say the same. I believe he had just returned a day or two before this weekend, not entirely sure.

Consider his serious jet lag, plus it probably being too soon, and I don't blame him for not showing.

Here were their seasons under Bob Stevens: 12-13, 7-18, 8-17, 11-14 and 8-17. Heck if Stevens and Dave Bliss would come back, why not Jeff Capel? It will happen sometime in the next 5-10 years, but it's too soon now.

Jeff Capel is a smart man. He may have thought he deserved another year but he recognizes how the business works and that he did not post the win loss record he needed to keep his job. It may still be a raw nerve but I am pretty confident he does not truly believe he was unjustly fired.

He now has plenty of ties to OU and Oklahoma. He will come one day.
