Capel will be here next year

Honest statement. It is how he/she comes across.

Not sure if someone has a profession or not has anything to do with this conversation. Or the fact they were in a greek house...but whatever.

I think OU wasn't headed in the wrong direction when he took over. A top 5 recruiting class in the bag, but he couldn't close the deal. Each player was urged by the ex-coach to keep their commitment, yet Capel couldn't close it.

The probation was a slap on the hand. It didn't prevent us from postseason play or tv appearances or anything like this.

He was left with talent that could get to the NCAA tournament or at least the NIT. He failed to do it. That's on him.

After 5 years, he can't become the man we hired him to be, but that's OK. When you go on the cheap like we did, you get what you paid for. It's time to cut our losses and try someone else who is a proven winner.

Most times there is a coaching change in bball, they usually go elsewhere. Im sure Capel tried keeping them. You dont think he tried closing the deal? Give me a break. Probation is probation, other coaches use that againist us, no denying that... If you are such a great judge of Talent, then you have a lot money to be made in the coaching business. Did you forget about the BG years? He gets no credit for that? Or you just looking at the negative?

It was just a hunch... A lot of people these days feel a since on entitlement... It does go along with someones opinion. A greek house would explain that entitlement theory...

What's your profession? You sound like you work for the government.

He's gotten credit for it, probably more than he should get.

You, me and about 200 other posters on this site could have coached that team to an elite 8 with BG on the team. He was by far the best player on the court every time he played. Did you happen to notice that we were 0-2 without BG that year? What does that tell you? One of those losses was to the worst KU team in the past 10 years at home on Big Monday.

I think more credible is the job he's done without BG...2 losing conference seasons, and another sh!_t-bomb of a season on the way. Sorry, but BG isn't coming back.

That 2004 team had 5 guys returning compared to 3 this year.
of the 5 guys returning, 2 were seniors and 1 was a junior.
This years team return 1 senior and 2 sophmores.
They returned 35.7 ppg while this team returned 20.9ppg
Of the 5 guys returning, 4 of them started 11 or more games with Detrick Redshirting that year.
That team also brought in a McD AA PG.

Thats not to mention that their non-conference schedule wasn't near as tough as this years. And their conference wasn't near as tough either.

This.

Not to mention Duke's run success in the late 70's was built off Foster getting transfers from other schools, not recruiting.

You keep throwing out Tiny and TMG...but that are only two guys. He has massively underrecruited his mid level players who should be staying 3-4 years and contributing at a higher clip as they get older.

Neysmith, Early, Patillo, Clark, Hardrick, Maze, Allen, Cannon, etc. Those are the type of players you need to stay for their full eligibility to have continued success. Even Kentucky has guys amongst the McDAAs who contribute. You need that experience to carry over...we don't have that.

-i think youre forgetting what happened to some of these guys.
cannon- he was always in arguments with coaches cause he was a brat
patillo-was in trouble more than once
hardrick is still on the team but i dont think he has much talent or why wouldnt he be out there
allen- only think i ever saw out of him when he got PT was turnover after turnover & he had a baby & needed to focus on that
neysmith- he was from georgia & he just was homesick

not saying capel shouldnt have SOME of the blame but geez people. & how was capel to know tiny was going to be so lazy & selfish & TMG not return after Spring break? i like capel & i support him 100% im just glad he got people on our freaking roster this year.

Didn't forget anything, all had character flaws which need to be addressed during the recruitment.

-i agree but people can put on pretty good fronts. && im also always up for giving someone a fair chance.

So, how is Capel not at fault for recruiting these guys? He should be getting to know them throughout the recruiting process but it seems like he's not. No other Big 12 program has this much turnover, and no other program at OU has this much turnover. Sherrie and Stoops both recruit a few bad apples, but the majority of their recruiting classes aren't booted from school or leave at this alarming rate.

Personally, I'd rather have open slots on the roster than some of the players that have scholarships. With an open spot, at least you have the possibility of getting better talent than just signing warm bodies. But, that's just me.

Then why did he leave for Marshall when his Baby was in Oklahoma?

I have an relative that's been a life long OSU fan. His sentiment about Jeff Capel is similar to a lot of OSU fans I would imagine. As long as Jeff Capel is here he's happy about where OU is going.

thats all i know from what the first line says.
he was also mad cause he wasnt getting PT i know. i use to be good friends with him

I know what the press release says, but isn't it odd that he wants to be near his baby in Edmond, Oklahoma so he leaves OU, in Norman, Oklahoma, to go to Marshall, in Huntington, West Virginia. You can spin it all you want but the story doesn't add up.

Stoops signs 25 kids a year. A lot dont stick around. We both know gball is so different than bball...
So if you want all these open slots... The year capel took over we would have played with 4? or 6? No programs is going to leave 5 scollies open...
