CBS Bracket

From what I'm reading, that was the rule until 2005, then they changed it to allow it up to the (then) Second Round. They still try to avoid it if possible, but technically they could allow teams from the same conference play earlier than the regional final games now.

They don't do it, though. It's easily fixed here by switching OSU and St. Joseph's. I can't see them putting OSU and OU in the same group of 8.

That's the key. It's going to be a very rare circumstance where it not be "possible" for the committee to avoid these kinds of matchups.

Palm and Lunadri usually get the teams right ans the seeds with in a plus minus of 2, but the matchups never seem to pan out how they see them

Yeah - I think that's because they're more concerned with predicting the field than actually going through all of the machinations that would satisfy the "avoid if possible" scenarios.

I do bracket projections for baseball. It's almost impossible to project regionals and matchups. It's not all that hard to project seeds and teams that get in.

I agree with you. Just fun to talk about.

Agree, but they miss some pretty obvious ones. For example, Lunardi currently has SDSU and OU as the 4/5 in the same region. I'm not even an amateur bracketologist, and I know the committee will try to avoid early rematches from last year if possible.

In the end, it's pretty meaningless, but you would think that people who hold themselves out at professional "bracketologists" would at least try to get these easier matchups right.

Agreed. These guys spend an hour putting the bracket together (at most) and the rest of the time talking about it, writing about it, etc. It's a racket, I promise. My site traffic goes crazy when I start putting baseball brackets out. I know marginally more than anyone else who pays attention, but people eat it up.

I pay attention to them, but i never look at matchups, i look at what regions the 1 and 2 seeds are in, and where teams of interest are seeded.
