Closing the door

Last year, we lost a couple of key games to WV and Texas because we couldn't close the door with a lead late in the game. In both cases, experienced players missed free throws to let the opponents back in the game.

Last night, in the last 1:38, Maddie was 7 of 8, and Peyton was 4 of 4 from the line.

I was concerned that Manning would be so worn out at the end of the game that she would be turning it over and missing free throws. Lot of minutes for her in a very physical game. Glad there was no reason to be concerned.

I think her fatigue was shown one time, on the layup that almost stuck between the rim and the backboard. She was just missing a bit of touch. She actually ran down the court after a foul was called giving Peyton two shots. She may have been tired, but she felt good. I think placing the game in her hands as Sherri did gave her enough epinephrine to play it out.
