with the "start Grooms at the point" club. He had another workmanlike game with 12 points, 2 boards, 5 assists and ZERO turnovers. No question about it, he deserves to be in the starting lineup!

If for no other reason, Grooms should start because Cousins deserves to be benched following his performance in tonight's game. His unforced turnovers on careless between the legs and behind the back dribble moves are getting old. And, as if that wasn't enough, he made no effort to hustle back on defense in an attempt to make up for his mistakes. Just when I thought he had turned the corner, he proves how wrong I was. :facepalm

Great game by Sam. Two double digit games in a row. The zero turn overs is even better than the 12 points.

I agree, but if the players are settling into their current roles, why make lineup changes this late?

Sam Grooms has been really good recently coming off the bench. I'm not sure I would mess with that formula.

Seniors

Grooms, Osby and Pledger have all stepped up here late in the season. It is wonderful to see the seniors finish strong.

Freshmen

Over the years, I have seen many OU freshmen "hit the wall" late in the season. Lon Kruger needs to work his coaching magic on Isaiah Cousins.

One of the best things Sam has done has been the removal of the the three point shot from his offensive repertoire. The next best thing he could do is to practice his free throws though.

Excellent point about the freshman wall, Trav! I have seen it a few times myself. I can live with their mistakes. That's to be expected. What I find hard to tolerate is a lack of effort when those miscues occur.

I have a feeling that Kruger's "magic" may be in rare form at the next practice session. :ez-laugh:

his best attribute lately is the ability to finish at the rim. i don't know how the transformation happened. it was like an automatic turnover whenever he tried to score in the paint. but in the last two games, he's been money. obviously he's playing really well overall lately, but that component is something i haven't seen in some time, and is much needed. keep it up, sam!

I agree that offensively he has been very important, but he also let Josh Gray score at will. We did MUCH better against Gray when Clark guarded him.
