What is our strategy?

What are our strengths? What are we doing to play to our strengths?

What are our weaknesses? What are we doing to minimize our weaknesses?

I cannot discern what our strategy/philosophy is from game to game; is this just me? Under Tubbs we had a clear philosophy. Under Sampson we had a clear identity. Under Capel I can't figure out who we are from game to game or season to season.

I think our biggest strength is that virtually all of our players have fundamental basketball skills. Everyone is a competent shooter, and everyone except for Fitzgerald can handle the ball reasonably well.

I think our biggest weakness is athleticism. We aren't very athletic and we don't have a lot of size.

With these strengths and weaknesses I would try to play a slow tempo game. I would have us milk the shot clock virtually every time down the floor. On defense I would play zone to help minimize the individual athletic advantage our opponents have on us. Using these tactics we might be able to keep games within reach and possibly even win a few? Am I missing something or do others see it this way as well?

What is our strategy?

Try to not lose by double digits.

What are our strengths?

Not sure, but "playing with heart" is said to be one of them.

What are we doing to play to our strengths?

Well, we don't get blown out badly so that keeps the "playing with heart" thing going.

Thats because there isnt one. Mizzou fans said Quin Snyder was criticized in the same way. Take that for what its worth.

I think our biggest weakness is athleticism.

Biggest weakness is coaching and talent.

With these strengths and weaknesses I would try to play a slow tempo game. I would have us milk the shot clock virtually every time down the floor

The problem with that is OU sucks on offense, and isnt disciplined enough to get good shots or run plays. The coaching isnt there for that either. Teams that take the air out of the ball for a living tend to have very good coaches, play great defense, and have disciplined players. OU doesnt have any of that.

With the coaching and talent on this team, I don't think there is really a way for this team to win a bunch of games. They will just have to get hot, hit a bunch of 3's from time to time, and win games like that.

What is our strategy? dont lose by too much.. i think we play to not lose horribly rather than win..i dont know if we even expect to win..

What are our strengths? i honestly cant think of anything.. we just are average at everything we have basic skills.. fitz is a good player and cade but the rest out just average

What are we doing to play to our strengths? we just play scrappy and ugly ball and hope we can sneak wins..

What are our weaknesses? dont blockout.. blocking out.. finding a guy to blockout... TO's.. shot selection in key moments.. lack of ball pressure.. basketball IQ

What are we doing to minimize our weaknesses? it seems like capel doesnt really make good moves to minimize weaknesses.. pledger trying to play point was a terrible move IMHO

this was hard.. i know this team COULD overachieve and sell out and play good bball.. this is a team that CAN be playing MUCH better but sadly it is not being demanded IMO

I wouldn't say demanded is the best way to sum up the coaching staff. I just don't think they know how to put this team together to get them into that mode. I'm sure the coaching staff is say all the stereotypical coach speak stuff in the locker room to "demand it out of the team". They just don't the Xs and Os to turn this into a scrappy overachieving team for 40 minutes a night. There are some brief flashes shown every and now then but overall this team usually only has 10 minutes or so of decent ball.

To their credit, I will say that when they've gotten down big to Kentucky and Arkansas, they didn't fold and actually narrowed the large leads in the second half.

First order of business: Stop giving up 45 points in the first half.

What is our strategy?

After 5 years I'm not sure anyone can really explain Capel's strategy. I don't know if he really has one. Especially on defense and most of the time on offense. Even under Blake we really didn't have much of an offensive strategy. Just let Blake do the work.

What are our strengths? What are we doing to play to our strengths?

Right now I think our only strengths are Cade Davis and Fitzgerald. Our young guys like Newell and Clark just aren't playing well in any consistent matter. Which is what we need.

What are our weaknesses? What are we doing to minimize our weaknesses?

I think we just need a new set of coaches maybe? We don't do any of the fundamentals that well as a team. I think we are real poor at doing the things necessary to win games. And most of them are simple things that we never really had to worry about under our last 2 coaches for the most part. They are simple fundamental things.

I cannot discern what our strategy/philosophy is from game to game; is this just me? Under Tubbs we had a clear philosophy. Under Sampson we had a clear identity. Under Capel I can't figure out who we are from game to game or season to season.

I think with Blake we were a little more clear on offense. Go through Blake. At times when we had Nate Carter we had a similar strategy. But last year we struggled at figuring out what worked and never ran through anyone consistently. This year looks the same except a little narrower with 2 guys that I mentioned earlier.

Basically we should do what Kelvin did on most of his early teams. There's exceptions of course. But we tried to slow games down under Kelvin most of the time because we weren't that athletic at guard overall. Even if we had a Minor or Brewer we didn't really have great athletes at the other guard spots but those teams did play a little faster early on. By 99 and 00 we basically played it slow and rebounded and defended. This team is terrible at rebounding and doesn't really defend that well. I don't know if slowing down completely works though because we don't really have consistent scoring and we turn it over too much.

I had to listen to the game via Arkansas radio, after the game Rick Shaffer said he is no coach but why would you have your team playing man to man defense when the other team is gashing it up...taking a shot at Capel
