- Spoke with someone very close to the TJ Taylor camp and he is indeed red-shirting for the upcoming 2010-11 season. TJ is still suffering from post-concussion symptoms and his ankle injury was severe enough that he is still having issues with it. Unless something changes later in the year, TJ Taylor will sit out this season.

- The closed scrimmage with North Texas provided this young team with a chance to go up against a veteran group of Mean Green players led by senior PG Josh White (younger brother of former Sooner point man, Quannas White). I spoke with a source about the scrimmage and have a couple of nuggets to share:

  • Freshman Cameron Clark showed flashes of being a top scorer for this team this season. "He continues to get more and more comfortable with the flow of the game and running our plays".

Junior big man, CJ Washington, did participate in the scrimmage but only played sparingly due to a groin injury that he suffered early last week.

Sophomore Drew Fitzgerald got into early foul trouble during the scrimmage session but was able to execute some good post moves during the time that he was in the game.

Junior Barry Honore was active on the glass and showed some promise bodying up against taller UNT post players. Honore actually played against several of the Mean Green players while he was at Southern University prior to transferring to Oklahoma.

Junior Captain Nick Thompson "Played about like he did in the exhibition game" which implies that he may have tried to force a few things on offense.

All of the guards really struggled against Josh White, who really pushed the tempo on the offensive end and was able to get into the lane and create things for his teammates.

The Sooners turned the ball over "way too much" against the man to man pressure that UNT employed.

No stats were kept from the game, and my source did not know the final score from the two sessions. Reports are (and SoonerDaze mentioned this in another thread) that UNT outplayed OU in both the scrimmage sessions and in the situational plays.

The Sooners gained a lot of valuable teaching lessons from the scrimmage and left Denton with a good understanding of what they need to work on in the five practices leading up to Friday's contest with CSU

- 2012 Commit Richard "Richy" Peters spoke with me this evening and gave me an update on his team and his game. He is averaging 12 points, 9 rebounds, and 2.5 blocks per contest and his team is 5-2 on the early season. Peters is "very excited" about being a Sooner and speaks with assistant coach, Dione Phelps on a regular basis.

- 2011 commit Robert Goff informed me that he had a minor knee operation two weeks ago to remove some torn cartilage in his right knee. He has yet to play in a game for his Hutchinson Junior College team but is "healing up nicely" and expected to get back on the court within the next two weeks.

- 2013 wing/foward Juwan Parker is receiving a lot of Big 12 interest as his Booker T Washington squad starts practice for its upcoming season. Parker rattled off KU, Tulsa, A&M, OSU, and Baylor as schools who have stopped by to see him workout over the latest recruiting period. No mention of OU at this time, but he is certainly a kid to keep an eye on and he will most likely be the top player in the eastern part of the state.

Have a good week. And here's to the start of Basketball Season!

Thank you for the info! :) Sounds like we have a lot of improvement to make but I think this team has the right attitude to make the necessary improvements.

Sounds like this team has a long way to go. Sad to hear the news about Taylor.

Thanks for the info Greg.

Uh oh. Don't let BigTime see this. His mancrush on the Big Puma is big enough.

I smiled real big when I read the Big Puma part. I admit it.

Thanks for the info greg. I'm hoping Goff can really develop some solid post moves under Coach Eck because we are going to need him next year.

Thanks for all the information, greg.

It sucks that OU got outplayed, but North Texas is a talented and very experienced basketball team. Not really surprising that our bunch struggled.

Also sucks that Goff is having knee surgery, but luckily its minor.

Thanks for the info. I was really interested to hear this.

You know Big, we really shouldn't be this suprised at any success by the Big Puma or the struggles of the other Sooners because only Cade Davis has more D-1 experience than the Puma does.

Thanks for the news, even if it isn't altogether good. I'm anxious to get Washington on the court since Thompson apparently isnt a rebounder. Defense and rebounding will have to carry us this year.

Thanks for the info Greg.

I don't have high expectations this year but if we show we can play some defense and show some heart, I will be somewhat pleased.

Let's not forget that UNT was an NCAA tourney team last year. BOOMER SOONER BABY!!!

I'll take that even a step further. Quannis White's brother Josh White is a 4-year starter that lit up OSU when he was a freshman. He, along with his Senior backcourt running mate Tristan Thompson form the best backcourt in their league. They have made the NCAA tourney 2 of the last 4 years, including their 24-win season last year, their 4th 20-win season in a row. They also have possibly the best player in the league in George Odufawa, a senior who averaged a double-double last year.

UNT will likely have a great year this year with their 3 best players, 3 of the best players in the conference all being seniors.

I just looked up North Texas' recruiting class. They have two players coming in with several major conference offers (per rivals). Looks like they may be building something down there.
