Courtney Paris

It took about 20-25 years before we retired Wayman's and Alvin's jersey so I think it will be a while yet. You would probably have to retired Stacy's as well.

Courtney is the most decorated player we've had, with no exceptions. National championship or not, it would be remiss of the powers that be to not retire her jersey...soon. Considering Vegas will be leaving this year, I hope no one takes #3 again.

At some point in the future I expect Courtney's jersey will be retired but I doubt they will retire her number.

I don't think those numbers were retired, but honored. Anyone know for sure?

As long as I've followed the Sooners, I don't think they've retired a number in any sport. I think it's department policy.

If they retired numbers in football, the numbers would have run out long ago.

Well, let’s see…

1. They obviously do not “retire” jersey numbers, but instead “honor” players by hanging their jersey numbers. Griffin wore 23 AFTER it was honored, and Adams and King wore 33, although the jerseys were honored after their playing days. Blaylock (10) was honored in 2001. Woodard is wearing 10 this year.
2. Tisdale’s (RIP) jersey was the first honored…in any sport at OU… and it was 12 years after he left the program even though he played 10 years after Adams.

A little research…

In summation... it seems that there is not a “standard” from high school through the pros for honoring or retiring jerseys, although there are standards for national honors such as pro basketball and football hall of fame; five years after retirement. Notre Dame has honored Diggins in less than ONE year. Ruth Riley preceded her in 2010. There is certainly not a “standard” at OU.

Maybe it’s time (actually overdue since the men began in 1997) to have a woman recognized at OU. I vote for CP first, followed by McGuire, Whaley, Dales…the four that seem obvious (and overdue) to me. Compare the OU men’s tradition site to the women’s. The women are overdue. What’s the holdup? And….it most certainly will help recruiting. Couldn’t hurt.

Looks like CParis is having a wang dang of a time in Europe (where the play is much more physical and fundamentally sound). She's averaging a double/double in league (Turkey) and EuroCup.

ATTENTION, ATTENTION...100% from BTA! They "let" her shoot the three over there???? What???? Imagine that...she knows when to shoot it. :facepalm

And her sister AParis ain't doing so bad either for averaging only 21 minutes.

Now if the Shock could wise up and sign AParis...or...if the GS Warriors finally gets a team (there's been talk) and signs Paris squared, Ashley Walker, Alexis Gray Lawson, Devonae Hampton, Abi Olajuwon and anyone else...they will sell out a small arena on a regular basis (like the Cow Palace). We in Cali can keep wishing!

Haha Bay you cool, but a wnba team with Ashley Walker, Alexis Gray Lawson, Devonae Hampton, and Abi Olajuwon would get killed, none of the young ladies have wnba talent.

Can you blame me for wishful thinking? We won't have a team in the state if Sparks move. Plus there are 8 other positions. There'd at least be people in the seats. :D

Haha true, even tho the casual fan cares more about winning then who's on the team, (See OU attendance now vs when we had the twins) I'm hopefully well get a Pro team soon, maybe by 2017 or 2018.

Thanks for the CP3 update. Whenever they want to retire her jersey and/or number I'd be entirely for it. Same with Stacey Dales. If Sherri is against the individual honor idea, let's just honor our Final Four teams on the 10 or 15-year anniversary. We have several :D

I think it is time to retire both of the jerseys you mentioned. I would also beat the rush and go ahead and add DRob to that list as well. :)

They will more than likely "honor" a jersey at the rate of one every now and then, but they do have some catching up to do...Dales, Paris, Whaley, Caulfield, McGuire, etc...

It would be great to see them have a pre-game ceremony before some really big games...OSU, Texas, Baylor. Wouldn't hurt to beef up attendance and hype for the game. Oh yea...and RECRUITING!

Also, add Ross. Too bad, she had a bum knee and too bad we did not recruit her in high school.......not sure about her grades then. She had awesome skills and with a really, really bad knee.
