As good as he is supposed to be, best player since Lebron, I'm not buying it. Dude dribbles too far out in front of his body and gets off-balance at times when driving. He is really good on Defense but I don't see all the hype. :OUbball-logo:

IMHO, he's the next Magic Johnson. Right now, he's a freshman on a team with sub-par coaching. When he gets to the next level he's going to shine.

I think the hype is for his potential. He hit 6 of 7 shots, but why did he only take 7 shots?

The answer is his offensive game has a ways to go. Kid is obviously an incredible talent that will go #1 in the draft but you won't see the real version of him for a couple years at the next level.

Nice pic, loved Lattin sagging to not draw the foul but yet keeping enough position to get the block to seal the deal.

Agree the talent is there. But you have to learn to develope it and put it to use. He could cause serious damage but is too unselfish and doesn't have the no how to take over Game like buddy.

This is only the 1st time I've seen him play so obviously I can only base this off this game:

He's very talented that is for sure...however I wonder if because most of his game comes so easily to him if he doesn't work quite as hard as he could..if you are acknowledged as the most talented player in the nation wouldn't you want the ball?..as a coaching staff late in the game wouldn't you want to devise plays to GET him the ball?..

It's admirable he's so unselfish however if you are that talented I would demand that ball in critical situations..I don't remember him once doing that..I'm not saying he disappeared..he just didn't seem to assert himself

Yeah, I don't remember Wayman or Blake having that problem.

They have one of the worst coaches in the country. Under a quality coach, Simmons could realize far more of his potential.

Yeah, probably a stretch, but I see the potential. He's a guy at 6' 9" that can play point guard at the next level. If not a Magic Johnson maybe a Penny Hardaway type.

Those critical of him need to remember that he's still a freshman. He'd never played a game nearly as big as this one today. It's easy to say that he should have demanded the ball but that's something he has to learn through experience.

He's going to be tremendous. I've seen him play 4-5 times this season and he's very good now and will be really special but, right now, I'd much rather have Buddy.

Spangler beat him today. 16 points and 10 boards vs 14 and 9. Spangler played a great defensive game and still scored a bunch of points.

He looks like a star to me. He needs to be more aggressive, but he is a strong rebounder, he can score easily, and he creates opportunities for teammates. He wasn't the best player in the game today, but he's one of the best college freshman you'll ever see.

His supporting cast played better than advertised, which was great for LSU, but then when they needed baskets, they didn't use him at all.

Credit to OU's bigs but also failure by LSU's coaches and players.

The best player for LSU tonight was quarterman ( 5 for 5 from three) and the best on the ball defense OU has seen this year . I was really impressed with him .

Simmons will probably be a future star but but Lebron James ( had he played college ) would have had 45 tonight .

The comparisons with lebron and magic are laughable at best .

The guy isn't even the best player in his conference ( see Kentucky ) much less the country . Even talking about him as POY is his biggest joke I've bee seen . Guy turned down open looks tonight , he was timid at times .

I know he's a feshman and could be a star in the future but he's nothing like some of the play we have seen from past players in college even as underclassman .

Griffin was better as a Soph , and durant was better as a feshman .

Also hes maybe a legit 6'6 . Spangler was exactly the same height( side by side) and he honestly a hair under 6'7

That's the big problem, right now he is too unselfish.

I don't know if unselfish is what I would call it. We have all seen a multitude of very talented kids that did not have the mentality to be a star. Seldom does a kid without the shark mentality and the desire to work his backside off become a star.

Simmons to me does not appear to have the aggression or the desire to take over a game and get a win. I think that is seldom learned but is innate instead. For certain when Simmons see blood he does not attack. On the other hand Buddy does.
