Could four side-by-side basketball games at Cowboys Stadium kick off the 2013-2014 NCAA basketball season?

Cowboys Stadium could be host to an innovative college basketball spectacular, featuring four games played simultaneously on courts that are pushed side to side, Cowboys officials confirmed Thursday.

The idea is the brainchild of Michigan State athletic director Mark Hollis, who last year engineered a college basketball game on the deck of an aircraft carrier.

“We have had conversations with Mark Hollis regarding his unique concept for multiple games at Cowboys Stadium next fall,” said Charlotte Anderson, executive vice president of the Dallas Cowboys and a member of the North Texas Final Four Local Organizing Committee.

“We are intrigued by the idea and are in the early stages of exploring many of the details that would go into making an event like this a reality.”

The conversation started when Hollis was touring the stadium for the unveiling of the logo for the 2014 Final Four at Cowboys Stadium.

Hollis broached the idea of playing four games that will start 15 minutes apart to stagger the endings to each game. The scene would be chaotic, but the large video boards at Cowboys Stadium could help sort the madness.

Hollis told SI.com that he would like to hold the event the weekend of Veteran’s Day and reach out to the military bases in the area in much the same way the game on the USS Carl Vinson paid tribute to the armed forces.

“We’re talking with eight institutions right now that have a very high interest and have that weekend open, and we’re going to partner with the 12 [military] bases that are around Dallas, so we can make it a celebration for the guys at Fort Hood and others,” Hollis told SI.com.

Of the eight teams, the only one that would definitely be involved is Michigan State, Hollis told SI.com.

What are your thoughts on the proposed event? Could something like that work? Let us know in the comments section.

Jerry Jones will do anything, no matter how stupid, to get attention. These gimmicks are not going to turn around the problem with college basketball. Much like having games on aircraft carriers when anyone with a brain could figure on moisture problems on the court being surrounded by water!

Anything that makes college basketball more like a middle school basketball tournament at the local Y is obviously a good idea. (albeit, in an enormous state of the art stadium type Y...)

Also, I like how they referenced the aircraft carrier game as proof of the guy's innovative genius - a game that was universally panned as ridiculous venue for a basketball.

Let's play college games at local blacktop courts. That'd be fun...
