Last I checked, the US takes pride in doing things different. I mean it used to be a sign of patriotism that the US set it self apart. Now it is frowned upon.
I do take pride in doing things different... but when the thing is question demonstrably bad, why would I not want to fix it? I am not so proud that I can't learn something from someone else. Lots of things back to our founding were based on English laws and norms, borrowed from France, etc.
I guess if you were around in the 1700s you would have wanted the US to be like everyone else then too and not have a revolution?
Uh, no. Other parts of the world were seeking freedom, representation in government, ending powerful governments and monarchies, seeking rights, etc. We were one of them, thankfully.
But I guess it makes sense that you want the US to be like everyone else...new world order. Mass communionism. Globalization . One world government.
How on earth do you associate my preference for changes to democracy that grant you more options, more rights, more representation in government, etc with mass communism and a one world government?
Having a different system isn't something bad.
But this system is bad... which is why literally every other free and developed country on earth doesn't do it.
And if the US system is so flawed, why don't you go to these countries that you admire so much?
I love my country. Wanting to improve it shouldn't be associated with disliking it. We have unbelievable potential as a country.
The cure? LOL. That stuff isn't a cure. It's a change for sure. But a cure? That's funny.
If you want the American idea of a government of the people, by the people, and for the people to continue.... it is a valid option. If you want another check on the government, it is a valid option. If you want to progress with the times and have a system of government that truly represents the people who live in it, it's the only option.
If you don't think things need to change, check out these numbers:
17% of Americans trust the government to do what is right. Meaning, 83% of American's don't trust their government.
- 21% of Americans approve of the job the American congress does. Meaning, 79% of American's do not approve of their government.
- 80% of Americans think the country is heading in the wrong direction
- 40% of Americans think our elections are not fair
- A Princeton Study found that citizen confident in ALL government institutions are at historic lows
- Millions of registered voters routinely don't like EITHER of their two options for President in a given election year. Two options is a problem. This year, 25% of people don't want either of these guys being President
I could keep going, but NONE of the numbers look good.
This is not a Trump thing.... It's a system thing. This is going to continue going down a bad path until something is changed. Something fundamental.
The other part I want to stress is that we now live in the information age. It's not that people want to copy other countries. Is that we learned about them. It's healthy to identify good ideas, recognize your strengths, improve your weaknesses, and constantly seek to improve. And, there is so much information out there now.
There is nothing all that patriotic, in my opinion, of having no interest in doing something different, looking at new ideas, or never wanting to change anything. Especially when its PAINFULLY obvious that something isn't working.
