Is there any remote chance of the "Death Penalty" for BB?
I sincerely hope not. All this NCAA talk has to be a chilling effect on recruiting.
Glad Kruger is here. He's the right kind of guy to sort out this mess.

Baylor came as close as anyone several years ago and bounced back pretty well.

The general consensus is that the death penalty will never be used again after what happened at SMU, but I do think there are cases where it would be appropriate in the other sports (not that this is one).

I really do not see anything worse happening that what OU imposed. It was a joint investigation so the NCAA is already aware of the findings. I believe if OU thought it the NCAA was going to bring down the hammer, they would've done more severe penalties to head it off.

I personally believe its a minor road bump in Kruger's rebuilding product.

exactly

The culture of cheating is deeply embedded at OU. It just never ends. No telling how hard we get slapped.

I think there's a misconception about the NCAAs stance on "repeat offenders" and the possible harsher penalties that could lead to a death penalty.

What helps OU's cause immensely is that there are no "Lack of institutional control" or "Failure to monitor" tags on this case. The NCAA investigator has already ruled on that, which was in this report that was released this week. If that was included, I might be worried.

Now I definitely think there's a chance they could add to the penalties because of the "repeat offender" status, but I don't think what's happened in this case reaches anywhere near the level of infractions that need to occur to be worried about a possible one-year death penalty or loss of non-conference games like what happened to Baylor a few years back.

So even though you see the "2 major infractions" headlines it's not really that major, except for the repeat offender status, which I guess we'll just have to wait and see how the NCAA handles that because they seem to be pretty inconsistent.

Good God. "Death penalty" has to be the most overused, least understood sports term in the past 25 years.

For the last time people, no one is getting the death penalty. Ever. Least of all for a freakin' $3000 loan, I don't care how many times we've been on probation the last 7 years.

This.

Baylor's situation a few years ago was much, MUCH worse than ours, and they didn't get the death penalty. The NCAA may very well decide to add to the penalties we've suggested, but no program will ever receive the 'death' penalty again IMHO. Too much money involved nowadays.

Bingo, I think in some ways the worse pub for this. All the articles with the headline "two major violations" is just killing OU in the casual eyes.

This is right. People don't just plead guilty and throw themselves on the mercy of the court. That is ony in the movies. Just like the criminal justice system. This was a plea bargin. A negotiated admission and settlement. The rest is just theatrics. It is over. Alittle bad pud, a scolding, and a wrist slapping is all OU deserved and that is all they got.

I don't see any more punishment for us for this particular case...but I most certainly agree that it gets very old seeing various OU programs over the past decade alone getting slapped with NCAA violations.
