DePaul

Rumor is Gibbs may not be back but time will tell if that is true. If she doesn't come back, we may be in trouble without a juco.

Kaylon's fouling is what scares me about her in the future. We really need for her to learn to play smarter.

True. She and Sharane (next year's only senior) will be counted on heavily and each will need to limit the instances where they've got 3 fouls with 11 minutes to go in the first half.
They are too good to lose to senseless fouls - and will be critical to our success in 2014-15.

I have to give Dee Kantner credit to making the right call on Morgan on the bunny hop before she shot a couple of times. I've seen different players do that tons of times this year and today was the first time I've seen it called.

Yes, those were definitely travels and the officiating didn't hurt us today at all, IMO.
Speaking of traveling calls …
Why is traveling never called in the post when players come to a two foot stop, establish a pivot, then take a big step with the pivot foot to get a shot off? I recall our NCAA tourney game a few years back against Stanford and Brooke Smith and she got away with that for about 30 points and they eliminated us.
Or am I just wanting traveling to be called if we can't defend someone? LOL!

If you come to a legal jump stop - both feet hit the ground at the same time - you haven't established your pivot foot yet and you can move accordingly.

Late to this and didn't see the game. I talked to my mother and she said Griffin hardly played. I've seen a mention here that she didn't match up well. Any other reason she didn't play.

Unfortunately, not true! 6'3" BS...no pun intended...was not traveling but was consistently doing what is called a step through move. She had great help with another tough post in 6'4" Kristen Newlin whom OU was trying to defend with 6'1" Leah Rush. Not a good match-up. The obvious better match-up was 6'3" AParis with her twin 6'4" CParis who were accustomed to the the play of Stanford. When AP was in the game it made a difference, but SCoale admittedly went with her upperclasswomen for that game, regardless of the match-ups! Yes, I'm still heated about that one.

It was a travel, and it was about 36 points. She hit fourteen of sixteen of that little walking hook, and she couldn't do that in practice, except for that one game.

And, the problem was Smith going directly over Courtney, nothing to do with Rush.

I agree, it was a step through, which is not traveling. Kaylon has used the same move successfully many times.

Done correctly, it is a thing of beauty. And infuriating to the opposing fans. Maria Cordero used to have a nice step-through move for OSU.

You're both wrong. Bay always finds fault with everyone not named Paris, and you always agree the the officials are correct when they are against OU.

Meanwhile, why is Gibbs being rumored not to be returning?

Convince foolishness against its will and you still have foolishness. I'm not even going to try to explain why the move she did 55 times in that game was a step through move and very legal...just check out the videos:

What I do find fault in is anything named non-competitive spirit, non-winning attitude, coaches that are not able to adjust with diversity of offense and defense, poor recruiting, sitting down when you're having your butt handed to you and thinking that seniority of class somehow equates to the best player for the game! If the shoe/stiletto fits...wear it!

Go away, bay.

I know what a step-through move is, and it doesn't permit two and a half steps, no matter who teaches it.

You don't get two and a half steps on a step through.

She wasn't taking 2.5. She didn't have to. Tara Vandeveer continued to have her players do what was working when the match-ups allowed. Rush was having a problem defending in the post because she was outsized and pushed around. When AParis was in with CParis, they were able to clog up the lane, and the ball was passed back outside. They went from a 21 point defecit in the first half of the game to less than 5 when AParis was taken out of the game. Just like today when Durrett was giving DePaul work...suddenly she's out of the game. Let her keep playing until she can't anymore, especially when IT'S WORKING! I've seen and spoke with BSmith since that game and she said they were all shocked when AParis didn't stay in the game. And they were very happy about it! So call it what you want. I know what it was.

Smith was executing a traveling sky hook that took up to three steps, and it was not over Rush. It was over Courtney. The officials just didn't call that extra step she was taking. I had seen her called for it in other games, but not this one.
