DePaul

I didn't understand why Sherri took Portia out of the game either. She was playing well on both ends of the court when Sherri put her on the bench.

The move that Smith used was not even the classical step-through, which is a move to the basket. Smith couldn't get around Courtney due to Courtney's size. She sought to improve her position by taking a couple of steps and shooting a sky hook that went right over the top of Courtney, except that she often took three steps. The step-though is not a blind shot, and the sky hook as used by Smith was almost blind, and it was totally lateral to the basket.

Smith was executing a traveling sky hook that took up to three steps, and it was not over Rush. It was over Courtney. The officials just didn't call that extra step she was taking. I had seen her called for it in other games, but not this one.

Again, convince foolishness...

Yes, CParis was the match-up for BSmith, but it was about how the offense was so exquisitely executed and OU did not adjust, except when AParis was there. It's funny that BSmith didn't get away with that same move when they were in high school. The twins had competed successfully in club and school games versus Smith, Titchenal, Wiggins and Coleman. They were accoustomed to playing them. Furthermore, for too many minutes most games, everyone else was standing around watching CParis...just like Geno said.

Must have been Sherri's fault.

Did Sherri do something to you specifically?

This game came very close to reminding me of the Stanford debacle of 2006 in San Antonio. We're getting our butts handed to us and then when we do get a good representation and chemistry on the floor, it's changed. This DePaul game was absolutely one that could have been won (clearly). Don't try to fix what's not broke. Go figure!

I think it is time to get some help for this anti-Sherri obsession.

Sybalistic, are you responding to my post? Can't take me off ignore? ;)

I'll take a shot at it. It is SCoale's "fault" (if that's what you want to call it) when adjustments are not made and when a dat gum player is getting the work done and then she takes her out of the game with that smack on the butt of enthusiasm as she (as in Durrett today, AParis on many occasions and so many others) goes to the bench with too much dang time left in the game. Let her play until it's not working anymore. When a player is on fire, that's not the time to come out unless you're up by enough points to give her a QUICK breather and then get her hot hands back in there before they cool off. That's a basic, very basic coaching standard. Who takes the hot player out when the games on the line?:facepalm

And for the umpteenth time that you or others have made that statement about SC doing something to me! She CAN'T do anything to me. I'm not on the team. It ain't personal. Just my opinion based on the many years of following the team, supporting the program and watching the same debacles over and over again.

It ain't about "Sherri"! But instead, it's about trying to support a program where the leadership continues to make the same mistakes. If those mistakes (poor recruiting, lack of direction from coaches during the game, inability to coach adjustments, taking productive players out of the game, etc) were changed to learning experiences and changed...we would see BETTER success at OU WBB.

From all of your posts, if you didn't have some sort of obsessive hatred of Sherri, I don't think you would even post. You don't seem to be interested in the team. You don't seem to have any ties to OU or Oklahoma. You only seem to praise Courtney, Ashley, and DRob. I guess it is that they were from California. But, you don't seem to have any reason to support OU, and every post seems to be a criticism of Sherri. Isn't there a team out there that you actually like? Maybe Courtney's present team has a message board that you can put supportive things on. I think San Antonio has a message board. But, to post just to criticize Sherri seems like there might be better ways to enjoy life.

I've always stated that I have a PERSONAL fanship for the California girls (you left AOlajuwon off the list). I've watched them play from their early years. But I've also stated that my family is from OK and have supported the program for a number of years. To make a longer answer shorter...I ain't going no where Sybalistic, until I decide...or get kicked off, but don't think I've broken any rules here. This is a forum for discussion, right? Opinions included, right?. The better questions is, "What did I do to you?" You're acting like you're "Sherri's" big sister (is that what "Syb/Sib" represents? LOL!) and I just kicked your dog!

Portia Durrett
Durrett’s 11 points were a season high. Her nine scored in the second half surpassed her previous season-high total of seven.

Durrett had a perfect shooting game. The senior was 5-for-5 from the field and made her lone free throw attempt.

Durrett accounted for all 11 of OU’s points from its bench. OU bench players other than Durrett were 0-for-7 from the field.

Why in the heck was she taken out of the game at all?

You'll notice that I haven't put you on Ignore. But, your posts have become so anti-Sherri, which doesn't really make sense, that it is interesting to wonder why you are so obsessed. I think I would find some message board for a team and coach that I actually supported. You can post as you like, and I don't know of any rules that you have broken. If anything, you only hurt yourself. But, isn't there some team or TV show that has a message board that you actually like?

Good game, girls.....You fought to the end with a chance to win.... And you put up 100 points !!! I know a lot of people have criticized you girls, and it has been frustrating at times, but I still love the OU girls and watching them play...Win or lose.....They are still OUr girls and I will miss the Seniors....I wish our season wasn't over...but now it is time to root for the other Big 12 teams that are still playing.

Oklahoma basketball: DePaul holds off Sooner women, 104-100
OU is eliminated from the NCAA Tournament in the first round for the first time since 2005.

By Bonitta Best, For the Tulsa World • Published: March 22, 2014

DURHAM, N.C. – Aaryn Ellenberg showed why she was a unanimous All-Big 12 first-team selection.

Oklahoma’s senior guard gave a spectacular 36-point performance in the first round of the Lincoln Region on Saturday, but it wasn’t enough to hold off DePaul in a 104-100 Sooner loss.

Ellenberg scored 26 points in the second half to lead a rally that erased a 19-point lead and put the Sooners up by five before the Blue Demons rallied for the win. The first-round loss is OU’s first since 2005, and the 100 points are the highest for a losing team in the women’s NCAA Tournament.

“Aaryn is a special, special player,” DePaul coach Doug Bruno said. “When the game is on the line, she will try to take it over, and that’s what I told the players at halftime. And she did.”

Leading 50-34 at the half behind torrid 3-point shooting (60 percent), DePaul built its lead to 19 with 15:57 left before the Sooners began their run.

After getting outrebounded in the first half, OU became more aggressive on the boards and with its defense. Behind Ellenberg’s eight points, the Sooners needed less than three minutes to whittle the lead to single digits, 69-61, with 13:18 left.

DePaul’s Brittany Hrynko (19 points) made a layup to push it back to 10 before OU went on another run – this time 17-6 – to take a 78-77 lead, its first since the 14-minute mark in the first half.

“I am proud of the way they came back in the second half,” OU coach Sherri Coale said. “We could have gone in a corner and hung our heads. I’m especially proud of our seniors and the leadership they showed.”

Four straight points by Sharane Campbell (22 points, 10 rebounds) built the Sooners’ lead to 84-79 with 6:29 remaining. But OU couldn’t stop the guard trio of Hrynko, Chanise Jenkins (21 points) and Megan Rogowski (24 points).

Jenkins and Hrynko scored 11 of DePaul’s next 15 points to retake the lead 91-86 with 4:20 remaining.

But OU didn’t wilt. The Sooners battled back to tie the game 95-all on Ellenberg’s three free throws at the 1:20 mark.

“She (Ellenberg) played possessed,” Coale said. “Every phase of her game was engaged tonight. As a senior, that’s how you want to go out.”

Hrynko put DePaul back ahead before Portia Durrett (11 points) gave OU its last tie of the game. With 39.3 seconds left, Hrynko found a wide open Rogowski, who nailed the trey for a 100-97 score.

An OU turnover gave the ball back to DePaul, which made its free throws down the stretch.

Ellenberg, who hit a final 3-pointer with 7.1 seconds left, took some solace from the loss.

“I gave it all I had for 40 minutes,” she said. “I have nothing to hang my head about.”

The Sooners opened the game with a red-hot hand – hitting four 3-pointers in the first five minuteso lead 14-12. After four lead changes, DePaul extended its pressure defense to full court and began to take charge.

Rogowski scored seven points in a 13-5 Blue Demon run that gave DePaul its biggest lead of 33-25 with six minutes left.

Durrett’s basket cut it to six, but DePaul outscored OU 17-7 to end the half, including the final nine points, all on three-point plays.

I wanted the Seniors to get to play another game but I am still happy to see the team finish that game with a good second half. .

Why don't you learn the rules to the game? That move Smith used was legal and the announcers said as much during the game. Rush used that same move from time to time.

Why is it when the "negatives" name call, no one is ever banned???
