Do any former players post here?

Nick Thompson lurks, and he wants to offer you his sincere thanks for your enthusiastic support for juco transfers.

The current players often read the board after games and have some good laughs about some of the posts. Their families do, too. I don't know if they post much though. I'm sure some former players are members and post from time to time. Ada know more than I do. I know he became good friends with a grandfather of one of the players while the kid was playing.... they may still stay in contact.

Former players definitely lurk, but few post. As a Mod on the OUI board several years back, I corrected a young poster who said Ernie Abercrombie was better than Daryl Kennedy. No one who remembers when Kennedy played would offer such an opinion. Within 24 hours, Ernie Abercrombie signed up just to tell me that he was a much better player than I was giving him credit for. We had a pleasant exchange, but guess he felt I was a little harsh on my comparison. I told him that we all appreciated his time at OU and will forever be grateful for that clutch 3 he hit in '95 to beat Kansas...but Kennedy was a top-10 all-time player who started for 4 years at OU. It was all good.

That was Austin Johnson’s grandfather. Great family! Met both grandparents after a game several years ago. We still communicate by PM on occasion, just not as often as we did when AJ was playing.

Several players shared at least one account here when the Griffin Bros were playing. I was told Blake, Taylor, Cade Davis, Tony Crocker and perhaps others would log on after a game to see what fans were saying about them. As usedtobe1 said, it was more of a laugh fest than an interest in getting involved in our discussions. The account had a couple of posts back then, but since a number of players were part of the fun they were having, it was impossible to determine who actually posted.

Romero Osby’s wife logged on and posted when Ro was playing. I really liked her! Romero was and still is one of my all time favorites. Jeff Capel’s mother had an account too. She posted a few times, but it stopped toward the end of Jeff’s time at OU, for obvious reasons. Coach Capel also participated in our ESPN NCAA tournament group brackets a couple of seasons.

Some of the mods who were around back then may remember some stories I have forgotten. BigTime knew some of the players personally during his “Red Wig” student involvement in games back in the day. Maybe he and the other admins who have been around for awhile will have something they can share. WaymanFan never forgets anything. Wish I had his memory!
