Despite losing starting center Chris Niemann to injury this year, they received word that Christian Standhardinger (of Germany) will be eligible after the first 15 games this year. They were also allowed a waiver from the NCAA to carry 14 scholarship players this year.

Standhardinger is a 6'9'' 220 German player who has a big reputation as a scorer. He will come in and practice and be eligible for the start of conference play, and Doc is really excited about him and thinks he can be a "very, very good player" for them.

In 2009, Standhardinger averaged a stellar 22.2 points, 8.5 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 1.6 steals over 26 games for Ehingen. He hit 54.7 percent (151-of-276) from the floor, including 40.6 percent (43-of-106) from beyond the arc. At the charity stripe, he knocked down 146-of-202 attempts for a solid 72.3-percent accuracy.

He can put the ball on floor, shoot from the 3pt line really well, and is a good athlete.

He indicated that Brian Diaz (another international player out of Puerto Rico) will start at center for them, but that he wanted to play Niemann and Diaz together (both 6'11'') but Niemann blew his knee out.

They will probably start Lance Jeter (6'3'' 220), Sek Henry (6'3'' 200), Toney Mccray (6'6'' 205), Christian Standhardinger (6'9'' 220), and Brian Diaz (6'11'' 235) by conference play this year.

Doc has an excellent but really young core now, and could make some noise in 2010-2011 with everyone returning including Niemann and Standhardinger.

i like sadler, but i don't like him getting an extra 'ship for god knows what reason. simply unfair to the other 11 teams.

This might be what puts them over the top in getting an NIT birth.

I dont think so. I think it will be tough for them to finish anywhere but last in the Big 12, unless they are able to sweep Colorado.

Do you think ESPN will pick up that Colorado vs. Nebraska game for College Gameday?
