In 2004 OU went 20-11, which by Sampson standards at the time wasn't very good. That was the Bookout, Lavender, Mckenzie, Foust, etc group. Young team. Me (and many of you) were around on the old James Hale board, freaking out, arguing, etc...

Then the next year comes along and OU brings in Taj Gray and Terrell Everett. That team goes 25-8, 12-4 in the league, and unfortunately loses to Andrew Bogut and a good Utah team in the 2nd round of the dance.

Point being... OU brought in two guys and it totally changes the direction of the team. The young guys got better and the two newcomers both started and were very good players.

Both were from random junior colleges and while people had high hopes for Taj Gray, nobody really knew what to expect at all from Terrell Everett and he turned out to be really good.

For all we know Kur Kuath, Jamal Bienemy, Hannes Polla (who I am basically counting as a 2018 commit since he didn't play at all this year), and anyone else OU signs come in and are able to have big roles on the team and fit in with the existing group of young players and they win 25 games.

It has happened before, and it will happen again.

Gray and Everett aren’t walking thru that door.

My hope is McGusty and Doolittle step up.

Hannes Polle will be the ultimate stretch and project. I watched miss like 50 shots in a row without being guarded in warm ups before Texas. He is just a body who can't jump, shoot, or defend.

and did you watch his games with the Fin National Team? I happen to know he can shoot those little bunnies and rebound.

Polla & Freeman make me wonder what the hell the coaching staff is doing recruiting overseas.

I don't want him shooting 3s.. Its not like he can drag out the defender then to blow by them.. maybe could clear the lane pulling out the 5 defender.. but he needs to never leave the lane except to screen

Not saying he will be able to in a game, but this is the opposite of what I’ve seen when I’ve watched him warming up and shooting around. I even text my buddy before the Kansas state game telling him I didn’t know polla could shoot it that well. He was taking several jumpers from near the 3 point line and I don’t remember him missing a shot. I’m not a scout but the form looked really good and i was pretty surprised.

If our hopes next year depend on Polla even 1% we are f***ed.
that is a genius remark and spot on
if Trae doesn't come back, I see us having trouble winning more than 5 league games next year

I have no hope that Lon nor his recruits can produce a product that I will enjoy watching next year. Never have I ever had no hope going into the next year.
