I can say that Lon didn't earn his money this year, it goes back to what someone said days ago "our coaches are just drawing a pay check"
Ou will not fire lon kruger.
that's a given but I do think it isn't long until Lon retires. If next year is as bleak as it looks to be and OU makes the tournament this year, it would be better for him to go out on a high note.
But the reality of the situation is that Lon will leave and retire when he wants and OU won't push him to do either.

I have no problem with OU paying Lon Kruger $3,000,000. But I think it should be about $250 base and the rest incentives. No NCAA investigation or probation add $250,000. Team has a 2.75 gpa and 250k, 3.25 add more. Win 20 games add money. Finish top half of conference add money. Win conference add money. Win conference tournament add money go to NCAA add money. Miss NCAA but win NIT add money.
Miss too many incentives forfeit portion of base salary next season. Make it more like commission sales.
They should seriously consider it. This is not an acceptable performance and I like Kruger. I think he is a really good coach and a better person.
Do you live in reality? What establishes, quality coach would accept that kind of deal? If that is what you want OU to do, then you better be prepared to have no one worth a darn interested in coaching our team.

Youre correct. NO coach will or would accept that deal. too many things out of their control.
Every high school coach in America would do it. Every college coach below D-1 would do it. About 50% of lower tier D-1 coaches would do it. Anyone making less than the base would likely do it. Many making more the base would do it because they believe they will perform.
If the parameters were reasonable many, many people would take the job.
Honestly I would say about 99% of Americans would take the job and probably 95% of people coaching basketball for a living would take it. Only 14 people make 3,000,000 according to the article. I would let the coach make notably more if they made the final four or even the sweet 16 multiple years in a row.
I wonder how people on this board would feel about the cashier at Wal Mart coaching this team.
