ESPN tourney Misery index

They did the same thing in Houston in 2016. I was still in shock over the second half to care. Glad we didn't sell tickets and came back Monday night as that finish, wow... also glad I wasn't a TarHeel.

Nothing like the sting of 1988. The most painful sporting experience I've ever had. Thought that one was ours and should have been. Sieger was about the only bright spot that night. Rickey Grace couldn't hit crap, Ed Hightower's BS foul on Stacey at the end... still hurts. Lol.

Yep, my misery index is still high. Would give a left... or maybe both (haha), for a 'ship.

Ironically, I ended up playing ball with Archie Marshall a couple of years later. We played in a couple of leagues together and would go for a run and workout as he was trying to come back to play professionally. Knees were never the same. Good dude.

Besides losing the thing what I remember about that game was for about every 3 point shot made by Seiger he turned the ball over numerous times (7 threes and 6 turnovers). We also only had 1 substitute in that game, Mullins, and he played 7 minutes while Kansas substituted liberally. We were gassed.

The overachieving play of several KU role players is what did us in. In that sense, the game was a fluke. Danny Manning was terrific, but he didn't do anything he hadn't done in the losses to us that season. It was the other guys who for one game played over their heads that did us in (and a couple of questionable late calls).

Tulsa Edison native, Kevin Pritchard, was a traitor.

Can someone expunge all the posts about the '88 title game? LOL

You're not alone. There are a few of us out there. I'll never forget scalpers combing through our section as Indiana ran out the clock in 2002.

I'm a little different, I know. I'm still not over Redman giving up the homer to JD Drew.

Hahaha. Me too. Not a lot of people remember that as vividly as we probably do. This year could be special on the diamond. Up to #9

Grace's play is what cost OU the game.

Yep....not a good game for ol' "Amazing". If I remember correctly, "Soul Man" Seiger hit about 5 or 6 threes in the first half of that game. That was just a night where an inferior KU team played out of their minds.....much akin to Villanova's win over Patrick Ewing and Georgetown a few years earlier.

Quannas hurt his ankle in a practice in Atlanta.

Yep, was on crutches on Friday, surprised he could even play in the semis. Foul trouble on Ace and Quannas' ankle was the difference in that game.

If I remember correctly, '03 we had Hollis pull his groin against Mizzou in the Big XII championship, and Ebi had the hurt wrist. That is what worked against us in '03. That was the year of the Carmelo Anthony Big XII Victory Tour.

Oh, and playing the Elite Eight 2 hours from Syracuse campus. Seems like that always happens against OU in big games in bball and football.

I was watching that game with Mark Price's brother-in-law at my home in Saratoga Springs, NY. We were both in the navy working at the D1G nuclear plant in Balston Spa. Game cost me $20 and a broccoli pizza.

Wow! I was watching the game at my friend's house with about 20 guys. You could have heard a pin drop after the final buzzer.

So ready for this to even out one day. So tired of playing other teams for all the marbles in their backyard...

Osu not winning a tourney game in over a decade is hilarious. That level of ineptitude is staggering.

Re-watch the last minute of the game. Quannas gets leg swept and rolled on it with 36.5 seconds left and is limping pretty bad. Might have re-injured it in practice but that was the initial injury. Kareem Rush even got a tech on the play

I will never forget Rick Barry's kid "Scooter" playing the best game of his life. <sigh>

Ahh, the 1988 title game. Someone recently asked me which loss has hurt the most over my lifetime as a sports fan. Since I was crying after my Dallas Cowboys were crushed by our hated rival Washington Redskins in the 1972 NFC Championship, it’s fair to say I’m not a young guy. Although I was a little too old to physically cry when we lost to Kansas, that game stings worse than any other loss I ever experienced as a fan regardless of sport. It’s not even close. Oklahoma football has obviously lost their fair share of big games (or more than their fair share), but most of them were by to a team that was clearly better than them. The 1978 loss to Nebraska may be the toughest for me...but it doesn’t come close to topping the 1988 title game.

this is correct

I heard a guy call in to Steely's show one time lamenting the loss in '88. He was still pretty torn up about it. He was in Kemper. After the call, Steely said that hearing the stories of being there that night is akin to PTSD for a sports fan. He couldn't imagine anything worse.

I've met a few people over the years who were in Kemper. My uncle was there. He doesn't like to talk about it. My mom was MEGA pregnant with my little sister, and when I walked by her room after the conclusion she was crying on the end of the bed.

I was 12 years old and I admit I cried. I was devastated.

Right, I forgot we played them in Kemper Arena, basically a second home court for them. Ridiculous.

You just described my experience perfectly, right down to my age at the time. Will always be one of the worst nights of my life.
